I have 1 PC that I use for business. I recently cloned 240GB Intel SSD to 850 GB Samsung using disk clone in Macrium free version after doing same with Samsung Data Migration kept failing. Macrium runs 20% off at this time so I wondered whether I should get 1 license or 4. I have another laptop which I don't use almost and keep it for emergency if something happens to my main laptop.

What I liked in Macrium Home Edition is rapid delta clone which is like incremental cloning. I will now keep Intel SSD as an emergency drive which I can use immediately. I would do rapid delta cloning from Samsung to Intel drive twice per month or every week to keep data on Intel drive current.

Macrium offer 1-PC (~$55) and 4-PC licenses (~$111) while at 20% off so I am contemplating whether I should fork for 1 license versus 4 licenses which come at a cost of 2 single PC licenses. There is 12-month support but if I will use software on 1-PC mostly, do I need 4 licenses? Are their license transferable? Is it tied to motherboard?

I am not sure where you are seeing this but Google gives codes for V6. I thought if you buy V6 a V7 upgrade is free. I saw at least 1 code ET6-HZ4-F8U.

TechnicGeek, if your only need is for a 2nd license for an occasional use on a backup System, one license should suffice without problem. That license is easily transferable to another System using the "Help/Remove license" menu item on the System that license currently resides (make sure you WRITE IT DOWN for re-licensing purposes :) ).... it may be moved as much as you wish to any System needing it, regardless of hardware configuration. When installed, it is locked into a hardware configuration and cannot be used, at the same time, on other Systems... that's why you need to uninstall the LICENSE to use it elsewhere. You don't even need to uninstall the Reflect application on the System you're uninstalling the license on (keeping the installed software and all your settings), it just won't run until the license has been re-applied. It's a very convenient operation.

If the license you're contemplating purchasing is a V6 license, it is upgradable to v7 for FREE, although a v7 purchase will save you some v6 to v7 licensing upgrade hassle in the future. A v7 license will allow the installation of a v6 software version on your System, if needed.

Froggie, if he does only use Reflect on a 2nd system for an occasional use, he should still make rescue media for each system. Then, even on the 2nd system, could he boot from the rescue media and make backup images while the license is still on his main system?

Yes you could do it, but just realize what you are doing in an ethical sense. I know you what it's called.

This is from the Macrium END USER LICENSING AGREEMENT (by definition, it modifies my response above in Item #3)...

Your right to use Macrium Reflect® and the Documents
Macrium Reflect® must be installed onto a Computer owned, leased or hired by you. Once you have installed Macrium Reflect® and entered your license key, you may not transfer your license key to any other Computer.

Macrium Reflect® enables you to make exact copies of the data stored on a Computer's built-in media ("Images"). All Images must be restored to the Computer from which they were taken.

There are two (2) permitted "fair use" exceptions to these obligations:
    1. If you permanently replace your Computer you may load Macrium Reflect® and your license key onto your new Computer provided you have removed Macrium Reflect® from your old Computer. Once you have done so, you can use Macrium Reflect® on your new Computer as normal and restore existing Images to it. However, you must not restore Images back to your old Computer.
    2. If your Computer develops a hardware fault which makes it inoperable you may load Macrium Reflect® and your license key onto a substitute Computer on a temporary basis whilst the fault is being repaired. You may then use Macrium Reflect® on that substitute Computer as normal and restore existing Images to it.
    1. Once the hardware fault has been repaired, you can re-load Macrium Reflect® and your license key back onto your repaired Computer (if required), and must promptly delete it from your substitute Computer.

My post above clarifies the situation, hopefully.
