    About once a month I'll remember I have it and enable it and update it. Depending what I'm up to, I may or may not run a scan. Is it worth keeping it enabled?

    Judging from your signature, no. You are more than protected already like this.

    If you are only using it as an on-demand scanner it wouldn't hurt to keep it.

    You hear lots of things so I won't vouch for the accuracy of this, but (supposedly), the signature database of starter edition is about half of what it is in the paid version.

    From personal experience;
    Spyware Doctor, either the free or paid edition, always slows down my computer.

    In my opinion, you would be better served by removing SDSE and instead, install either Malwarebytes (free), or Superantispyware (free).
    Both have great track records and coexist with whatever else I install- at least so far.
