Since I started using a VPN their recommendation is to use OpenDNS I've been battling with the fact that my ISPs DNS servers are quicker than OpenDNS, until now!

DNS Jumper has been mentioned a few times here, and there was a thread from 2014 which is now locked so here we are.

    http://www.sordum.org/7952/dns-jumper-v2-1/

DNS Jumper allows me to use my ISPs DNS servers while not using the VPN and quickly and easily change to OpenDNS before I open up the VPN. It also clears the DNS cache on each change.

If you have the need this tool is well worth a look. :thumb:

    Cheers!

Err, scratch that. DNS leaks when changing setting with DNS Jumper.

    Why not DNSCrypt?

    Brian,

I was using OpenDNS but the leak was when using PureVPN. If I used my ISPs DNS then 'Jumped' to OpenDNS to use the VPN it leaked. When I manually changed DNS settings there was no leak.

I have some questions about DNSCrypt.

Does it affect download / upload speed and ping? Will I see any difference browsing and downloading? Does it affect using a VPN and if so, how? Is it better for a novice such as me to download Simple DNSCrypt or DNSCrypt WinClient? Simple DNSCrypt sounds... well simpler.

    Thanks.

No, it does not affect speed and performance.

Makes your DNS requests encrypted which is a good thing.

They both rely on the dnscrypt-proxy program so just choose the one that feels easier to use.

Not many DNS providers to choose from based down here in Australia. Great for Europe and the US.

    @avatar ,

I've enabled Adguard DNS to be the primary Resolver but when I check here it shows I'm not using Adguard DNS. Is that normal when using Simple DNSCrypt?

I got it working now. I had enabled the Primary Resolver with the slider but I needed to click on the network adaptor and now that it displays a tick https://adguard.com/en/adguard-dns/overview.html now shows I am using Adguard DNS.

    Thanks.
