I'm looking for an excellent DLL-Cleaner for WinXP.
Try this excellent suggestion from "Muf"
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=87760&highlight=locate.com (see post 7)
locate.com - I use this one!
txs for the info, but I am searching for a program that finds and removes unused and orphaned DLL's.
It should be reliable.
Freeware is not absolute necessary, payware is fine too.
Hi, Locate.com should do that. Note I tried installing an ancient version of Office (just to get Access) did not have any luck. Removed office '97. Then I ran locate.com (finds only .dll's), which found orphaned .dll's from Office '97 uninstall. I then copied the list of orphaned .dll's, to another folder, deleted the homeless .dll's & all was/is well.
Nevermind if you've already checked it out & it does not suit your needs.
couple of sites to try
Hope this helps
Allright, I will give it a try
Txs a lot!
CamTech's DLL Orphans seems to be exactly what you're looking for.
Seems to me a bit dangerous....
Possible not for WinXP
Aren't they all?
It says it is in the link Smokey.
Looks interesting. Maybe i'll give it a go.
In the first place, my thanks to everybody for the help.
I have decided to take PC Cleaner v3.5, btw, it's freeware.
Description and download here
Have used it now for the first time, and it is working very well
what about this one, Smokey?
Why do you think you need to get ride of redundent and unused DLLS?
If you think your system has become overloaded with crap, please reformat.
controler ( Mr reformat advocate)
Hi Mr. Reformat,
When I have so much time like you, I will consider your suggestion
I will give that one a shot too!
You think I have extra time? LOL
No I don't but I do know that reformat is the key.
Try it , you may like it. Everything gets faster.
Micrososft even recommends it now.
Even though I never will be MVP in their eyes, I am happy they took my suggestion on REFORMAT.
this one could help too, does have more features (didn't test it yet), and access by right-click on the files :
(main site: http://www.jps.at/)
It is appropriate for ‘PC Cleaner’ to list System32\BOOT.DLL ? ;P
Don't forget to backup or image before you remove any dll's
Such a great idea, and no MVP?
This world is bad, and Micro$oft is very, very bad!
this is the last free version4.3 but it is still great
its regcleaner/statup control/software registry left-over cleanserand much more. it has a backup feature for all sorts
after download and install go to
tools> view shared DLL files
XP-Smoker will also do this, and more. Great little program.
It looks good, i will give the program a try
