I just installed it in Vista. Installation went fine.
You have to restart whenever you change mode, be it to go to "shadow" mode or out of it.
It has something called "incremental" protect mode. I have yet to get the grasp of that.
There is a 30 day trial, but when you restart into protected mode one trial day disappears and suddenly you have only 29 days...some kind of new trend in trial software?
I have the same problem with Rising Personal Firewall, when I did a program update it took away 10 days of the trial o_O
Well I´ll play with it for a while to see if it offers something worth while. But I know I wont use these kind of freeze software for real until they discover a way to jump in and out of the protected mode without restart.

*edit* works fine with R_FDISR btw I take that back, there was something strange (se below) in my machine and FDISR

Interesting - It appears that you can reboot as many times as you want and then decide if you want to keep or get rid of the changes.

INCREMENTAL PROTECTION MODE - When this mode is active, the user can choose himself when to recover the data, i.e. arbitrary number of restarts is possible and data between the restarts will be accumulated and stored using the Disk Write Copy technology. http://www.diskwritecopy.com/eng/misc/dwc_pro_schema_3_big.html

I wonder if that means you can install reboot play reboot, and finally discard what you installed. This might be worth a play.

I believe so Peter. I haven't installed it yet as I am waiting for a beta but I did find the help files. I was on every page on the site, I just didn't scroll enough. :'(

Anyway, the the help file download is at the bottom of this page.

Eh, what do you mean waiting for a beta. What do you download at the site?

Can it handle softwares, that require a reboot during installing and can you remove these softwares without a trace ?

In his incremental mode it looks in a way like Sandboxie,if that is true then SBIE is far superior.

Just one occupied free space block versus many Sandboxes with possible that many different settings !

Difference might be Sandboxie doing it's job makes installing some stuff difficult. This looks like it will let you install and then do away with it. Going to have to test.

After reading the documentation, I'm not convinced DWCPro will improve what I already have. The only attraction for me is that it seems to work for more than one partition. I certainly don't like its GUI and it's quite expensive for a software without a reliability history. Their forum isn't much either.
Well I'm not in a hurry, 5-10 years is a long time and DWCPro won't be the last new ISR-software. :)

I've been playing with it, but it's not intuitively obvious how do get it to do some things.

Also it doesn't protect mbr and partition table so they need to fix that.

Peter, I noticed that all of a sudden after a reboot to normal mode I could not choose "boot to snapshot" in FDISR it was grey´d out. Do you have that problem? I could change snapshot int the pre boot but not in windows.
Also my network card (driver probably) had some problem, I could not connect to internet.
When I restored SP image without DWC all was fine again.

DWCpro has one very nice feature that is missing in Shadow Defender and most others for that matter. The Incremental mode has the ability to save across multiple reboots. I rebooted 4 times adding a folder to the desktop each time. When I went back to Off mode all the folders were gone. It's a nice feature but the rest of it is like that old pickup truck that you have to get out of to put it into 4-wheel drive. I could not find a situation that did not require a restart when changing modes including non-system partitions on the same hard disk. It has lots of potential and I do like that Incremental mode.

Beta sign-ups if you like it and want to give input for future features and possibly receive a free license. But it does not specifically say what product is to be tested.

And uniquely, for this type of app, it says it supports x64.

Were you able to figure out how to save the final result if you wanted to. I haven't. Also have you figured out what if anything those preboot menu options do?

Forgot to test the network thing, but I gave it a workout with FDISR.

First thing I did is right after installing, I updated an FDISR archive. Then uninstalled. Did the usual restore of the archive and DWC was right back. Then I put in incremental mode, deleted a couple files on the desktop. I then updated my FDISR archive. Returned to Normal mode and the files were back. Like you I could only boot to the secondary with the preboot, but my Preboot status wasn't greyed out. Once in my secondary I restore the archive. Although I'd updated the archive in Incremental mode, DWC was back still in Normal mode. The files I'd deleted were gone, this time permenently.

Again I did this all in the vm machine. Very interesting.

    Pete

Thanks for all the testing, than I don't have to do it. :D
I skip this one, because I don't need that incremental stuff.
If this software was able to do its job without reboots or less reboots, that would have been a sensational improvement, but that's not the case. :)

Too bad ! I initially thought this app. was end of all solutions.
Playing well with FDISR is the starting point,if it fails, good bye to anything. ;)

That really wasn't a failure. FDISR copied the snapshot as it saw it, and what is saw was the files were't there. It was what I expected.

Same was true of shadowdefender and Returnil when I tried the same thing.

As you said did a copy/update to archive with incremental mode enabled,i would expect that after copy/update again from archive,DWCP should show up in incremental mode, but it did'nt. Weird ? o_O

Actually, the interesting features are in the Professional version, but the listed price is a deal breaker from the start. The market will bear a certain price point, but $89.95 for the Pro version is not it.
