What is Disk Investigator? - Disk Investigator helps you to discover all that is hidden on your computer hard disk. It can also help you to recover lost data. Display the true drive contents by bypassing the operating system and directly reading the raw drive sectors. View and search raw directories, files, clusters, and system sectors. Verify the effectiveness of file and disk wiping programs. Undelete previously deleted files.

I had tonnes of errors and problems with it. The gui was all screwy with bottons on top of each other :(

I emailed a detailed message of problems to the developer to try to help him fix this. Maybe it is me using w2k server? dunno, we'll see.

I'd like to know if it works for others. So post here.

thanks for the info......I think I'll pass on this one.
Had a major problem just downloading the darn think...got dis-connected four times during the DL...an the DL speed was less than 2kb per second......thought my machine was on the blink.

so..I'll just go by your offered opinion...an pass on it.

Snowman,  I offered no opinion. I stated some facts about what happened to me personally when I tried to evaluate it. I doubt it works this badly for others or it would never have been released.

I was hoping other would try running it to see if my problems were isolated. I didn't mean to scare anyone off!

I installed this program (briefly).....the install was quick..easy........the un-install was clean (frankly I was surprised)

admittedly I did not know how to properly use this program so can only report what little I can.

the gui was fine....no double bottons....(on a winME).....the program did show "disk" and "directory" info........an here is where it lost me....in my case I could not tell that "any" files were ever deleted.......deleted files were suppose to show "red"...an I had none.....also, I wasn't able to "view" files.........all of which may have been do to my own lack of knowledge on how to properly use this program..

some very interesting info was revealed....several www's that were strange....an not suppose to exist.....I'll check that out.

unfortunately the "help" wasn't as understandable as perhaps I had thought it would be........someone like yourself no doubt could explain much better.....

I did run adaware......no spyware detected.

beings it the middle of the week I am more careful when trying new programs so as not to knock my computer silly during a workday.....which is why I didn't venture far into this program.

for someone who knows how to properly use it......may be worth checking out.........it does "suggest" in the "help" that you check out one of the other programs offered.....but no big deal here

Although useful, this type of program would not be part of what i would consider the normal part of the arsenal needed to backup/restore a system or files.
It is more like a tool of last resort in case the normal arsenal fails, especially in the case of hardware failure.

Actually I had not thought of this tool in regards to back-up\restore.............but instead as just a means of checking to verify the effectiveness of wipe tools.

agreed...it may have some usefulness....but I really didn't consider it beyond the "checking" part.
