    In terminal sudo echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

to enable it back sudo echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

Ping is enabled in Ubuntu for network diagnosis and that makes it fail stealth test on Shields Up at www.grc.com

If you are behind a router then NAT is hiding you and all this is not necessary, this is for those with modems and firewall enabled.
