Hi Chaos, This question is not directly concerned with security, however, please use the following link to find out more about DirectX 10

Speculation about new software from MS might be better discussed on boards that discuss MS's up & coming releases.

    Thank You. Pilli

Most likely, DirectX 10 will be released when Longhorn is ready, because there have been no new graphic enhancements planned by Microsoft till that time.

DirectX may have new graphical features which require a graphics card that will support these features.

Also, the implementations of current features may be changed to offer more performance on specific hardware.

Here's the basic run-down of the features of DirectX from a graphical point of view:

1)DirectX 7.0 introduced Hardware Transform and Lighting, which is supported on NVIDIA GeForce series, and ATI Radeon series.

2)DirectX 8.0 introduced Pixel and Vertex Shaders version 1.1

Also,an optional feature from previous DirectX versions were made part of Pixel Shader 1.1 (GeForce3)

3)DirectX 8.1 improved the Pixel and Vertex Shaders of DirectX 8.0 for better performance and quality (GeForce4, Radeon 8500)

4)DirectX 9.0 heavily enhanced the Pixel and Vertex Shaders to version 2.0 for extremely realistic quality levels, with color ranging from 64- to 128-bit precision.

DirectX 9.0a was comprised of bug fixes, 9.0b introduced new features for the GeForce FX, and 9.0c increased performance for GeForce FX, and added features for Radeon X-series and GeForce6.

EDIT: Didnt see your post, Pilli - sorry if I have violated something.

No problem FireCat, It is just that topics like this are not really what WildersSecurity is about and there are better places to discuss this type of software. Your post is helpful and the link useful.

    Pilli.

Not a problem Chaos but in matters of non security related software that is not yet released a lot of speculation can occurr rather than fact, so it is sometimes better to hunt down the links to the expert sites that deal with new sofware such as Longhorn and DirectX 10.

    Cheers. Pilli :)
