You don't need to spend $9.99 to purchase the extended download service from Digital River (findmyorder.com) if you have your serial number.

Go to the Acronis Website, login using your email address and password that you created when you purchased the product, then register your product using the serial number. Then you will be able to expand the box for the product, and download the installation file.

I wish I would have known about that so I could have saved myself $9.99. Darn. Digital River is making money off fools like me.

Yes, the extended download offer is a bit of slimey business conduct. It should state with the offer that one can re-download for free without time limit from the Acronis website. That would be a decent way to do business, imo.

Perhaps Acronis should require that DR make note of the fact that the software can be downloaded at any time from their website for free after you register.

It's especially a waste because when a new build comes out you can't get that from DR.

I always like to check ahead of time to find out how the company operates, though I backup my downloads so I wouldn't redownload it from DR in any case.

This behaviour isn't limited to Acronis. The easiest way is to make a few copies of your downloaded file immediately (if there is a checksum, check it first for the correct value) and then you don't have to worry about getting it later.
