    Hi pegnet,

You have a variant of the CWS trojan that needs a special tool to remove the super hidden dll file.

Please download FINDnFIX.exe (2K/XP only!) by freeatlast, from
~removed link as no longer available there - snap~

Double-Click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system (Do NOT change the fixed path.)

Open the FINDnFIX folder and double click on !LOG!.bat.
IMPORTANT! Before you run this tool please close ALL running programs and ALL open windows except for the FINDnFIX folder.

The program will take a few minutes to finish while it collects the necessary information, then it will create a Log.txt file.
Post the contents of the Log.txt in your next reply.

    Regards,

    snap

    Hi pegnet,

You are doing it right (hitting the Post Reply button to reply to this thread) :)
I've removed the link in my post as at the moment the FINDnFIX tool is not available there. I don't know when it will be available, but as soon as I find out, I'll post again with the link. Just check this thread periodically.

Running CWShredder and AdAware 6 (fully updated) along with Spybot Search & Destroy in Safe Mode, may remove it temporarily, but this particular variant of CWS has a super hidden (invisible) dll and it needs a special tool to identify it and remove that. That is what FINDnFIX does.

For now, if you can, I would suggest using another browser, like FireFox or Opera, and not using IE. Also, make sure you visit Microsoft's Update Site and have all the Security Patches and Critical Updates listed for XP and IE6 installed.

I'll post back as soon as I find out anything new to fix this nasty, but feel free to post another Hijackthis log if you would like. :)

    Regards,

    snap
