In my router settings, the default is for the lease to expire every 24 hours. I changed it to expire every minute.

Just curious of any possible drawbacks to this setting. I initially did it just to see if I'd get a new IP. It worked, but I didn't bother to change things back to their original settings. Any reason I should?

i don't see any advantage in having internal network address changed every minute. Your internet facing address is not affected by that setting

There certainly is no advantage to changing it that often at all... In fact, it just creates unnecessary network traffic and overhead. The longer the lease, the better as far as I'm concerned. I'd reset it back to whatever the default was.

Yeah, I noticed it was causing my connection to stall.

Switched it back and things are smooth again.
