I guess you can spin things any way you want. Assuming the test is worthwhile, valid, etc., in this test, KAV 6 was first loser (i.e., 2nd) after Norton AV 2007.

i find this thread misleading a little bit,

why cant it be a decent detection rate with features also?

i certainly would never choose between one or the other, i prefer both to be good enough. :D

Just being a little snide, but even with a bucket load of features what good are they without detection to make them worko_O

    FreeAV Example:
    Antivir, avast and AVG

No doubt, who's got the best detection rate. But among the three, since I'd go for features, I'll choose avast or AVG. But since I do not want the hassle of registering every year, I'd go for AVG. I always install AVG to friends as it would be the easiest to maintain, if maintenance is needed at all. Now, in a real-world scenario, practicing safe-computing, would we be less protected with AVG than with Antivir?

My answer is yes. Antivir has a greater detection rate than all three. That does it for the useless features. Updates are unreliable with AVG but reliable and trouble-free with Avast Home. Registration is no hassle with Avast, takes 1 minute to re-register, COME-ON. I'll say for the moment, Antivir no. 1, AVAST no. 2, AVG Free far behind no.3. That's my tastes and many other users for now.

Depending on your connection,upgrade/updates for AntiVir can be difficult to get.
Not a slam on AntiVir.I like the program a lot.
The trouble-free updates for Avast are a big reason why I switched.
