I am sure that this has been addressed before, but I cannot find it.

Are the detection levels of the free versions of Avast, AVG, and AVIR the same as the paid versions?
My assumption is that the answer is yes, but some of the features such as auto-update, are not operational on the free versions.

I seem to recall that the free version of BD has the same detection % as the paid version.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

I "think" the answer is basically YES.
some other products may e.g. detect with the paid version also spyware etc. or malware in archives.

AntiVir(AVIRA) paid has anti-spyware extra feature, AVG and Avast has the same detection rate as far as I am concerned. :) Also BD the same detection, but no automatic updates, and no on-access protection! ;)

AntiVir Classic = no adware/spyware detection
AVG Free = no adware/spyware detection, no real automatic update, AVG Free has a scheduled task that can only be updated once a day, other updates you have to do manually

avast! Home Edition = full detection of viruses, worms, trojans, adware/spyware and other malware
