I don't know if anyone is "expecting" you to use DefenderUI, but it's nice there are options available for those that want them.

for configure defender, yes, it is, so, you can say that. but for dui, it's not. the developer himself said on mt "one of the main reasons i am building this app is to build a template for the new vs design."

well, i'm not so sure if anyone would ask for it, had the developer not come up with the idea of a "template for his own sw". especially when there's already an alternative like configure defender.

Yeah, I'm currently using Hard_Configurator with MD on one of my machines so haven't tried DUI, but I wouldn't mind checking it out to see the new UI proposed for VS. I don't have VS installed at the moment.

I like to think it "enhances" Defender.

I applaud anyone who has successfully made sense out of the hot mess that is Windows Security. Andy Ful/Hard Configurator first but now there's an alternative. Software enthusiasts change stuff all the time. It's nice to have a mix of good and interesting software to rotate every now and then. Keeps things fresh. :thumb:

I dont see your point... defenderui isnt an av, just a frontend to improve usability.

Windows Security is a cascade of scrolling and searching which settings are where and DefenderUI simplifies that "mess" with some orderly menu's and TABS that WS doesn't offer. Variety is good and often times useful.

So there's going to be a Free and Pro version of DefenderUI? Because I don't really need the extra features, I rather just have a tool that controls Win Defender, without other stuff like anti-malware and anti-exploit. It's a bit weird, why didn't he reserve this stuff for the new VoodooShield.

I thought Defender UI already comes with everything configuredefender does. And that the pro version only ads features that configuredefender doesn’t have.

I tried it out really quick and It's a nice interface. One thing: in the Scan section, it'll take you to the Defender Scan UI but with the Custom scan option highlighted. I think the Quick should be highlighted as it's the default anyway but maybe there's an ulterior reason, I dunno. In the tray, the two options are Quick and Full. But anyway.

I'm content with OSArmor and portions of the H_C software If you're not already used to the terminology, DUI can be much friendlier that way with stuff in plain language.

Is the "pro" version of this going to be merged into VoodooShield? I don't really keep up with the thread at Malwaretips anymore.

nope. it'll be a separate product. and dan doesn't recommend running the pro version along with vs. but he says it's ok to run the free version along with it.

Oh, OK thanks, imdb. Just was curious. It looks like it'll be supported with donations going by what's on the bottom of the main window--or is "pro" going to be subscription-based while "free" is donation-ware?.

It re-occurred to me that the creator of H_C refuses donations for his products. Just mentioning, as voluntarily supporting devs who create great software, even as a hobby, is kind of a nice thing to do and with no strings attached.

But that's as far as I'll take it. :isay::)

    you're welcome, plat. :thumb:
afaik, it's the latter. the pro version is going to be sub-based but after a period of around 6 months according to dan's statement.

yeah, it is. another top dev who refuses donations is @gorhill. i respect him a lot. he's a man of ethics. for my money he's the steve jobs of our generation.
