DDS10 freezes before it finishes

I just used DDS 10:2077 (on a bootable CD) to reformat my entire hard drive. Just as it appeared to finish, it froze. The message "Synchronizing with the operating system" was displayed. Even the mouse cursor was frozen. I had to turn off the machine. I've done this three time with the same result. Anyone have a similar experience and found the cure?
