I doubt there is a threat
However, install and restart resulted in:
i stand corrected
it seems 4.0 contains adware

Actually, this information may prove useful to somebody else with the same question in the future.
Well NOD32 doesn't detect anything on it. Fully updated on 14.11.2005...
well, disclamer was included
i've somehow overlooked that searchbar checkbox
Well thats ppls fault. They always just click Yes/Next and don't read whats there. And then they come crying to me why they get flooded by popups or similar stuff...
i never expected that svenske would mess with adware solution
"daemon tools searchbar" sounds like a program component, doesn't it ?
fortunately, amon saved me from making a complete ass of myself
or perhaps ... hmm ...
Actually, adware can generate in such a popular tool lumpsum of some hundred thousands US dollar per year...
I just pass all those eula's to EULAlyzer and hope for the best
If you install 4.0 you might run into some problems with the install also,so it is better to wait for the next version. It installs something you didnt have on your system before to, and it does not uninstall it if you run the uninstaller.
If you run sysinternals rootkitrevealer, it will come up with these hidden after a scan:
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\s0 17.11.05 20:58 4 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\s1 17.11.05 20:58 4 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\s2 17.11.05 20:58 4 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\g0 17.11.05 20:58 32 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\h0 17.11.05 20:58 4 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sptd\Cfg\ 17.11.05 22:28 0 bytes Hidden from Windows API.
these are all due to Quote:
NOTE: DAEMON Tools V4 also uses SPTD (SCSI Pass Through Direct) driver to access cdroms and it is also automatically installed during DT setup. But SPTD is not removed during uninstallation because it may be used not only by DAEMON Tools but by other applications as well and its removal may disrupt these applications.
