I'm currently using AppCheck, which offers a free version. None of these tools offer 100% protection, but from what I've read it's quite good.

Thanks...but they say they do not protect removable drives..?? I suppose that there is a warning as soon as a suspicious .exe file wants to run ... Am I wrong??
edit : and no MBR protection in the free version

MBR protection is available in the free version, but removable drives protection is not.

I'm not against it, I just think it's not user friendly.

    Ok
Mbr protection is available in the free version, it's right. I do not understand why I had read the contrary a few days ago (too much beer, maybe...)
Installation in virtual Win is really easy and quick. I am going to give a try in real Win..
    Thanks again!

CryptoPrevent is a very useful and uncomplicated extra layer of defence.

    -Cryptoprevent?
Installed today (W10)>> full mess in my computer...> bye
-AppCheck ? (the free version) : at first glance, quite easy. But surprisigly I've discovered on my drives, including external drives, 2/3 folders (AutoBackup), containing backups of anything (or random data [lol]): sometimes the mail folders (pst from Outlook), sometimes firefox settings etc.. sometimes 1 or 2 meg and sometimes 1 or 2 gig of data). I've tried to modify this behaviour first in the proggy then in the registry>> impossible to change! (deleting these folders is easy but they come back nearly immediately ) >I had to uninstall
-still looking for THE good free antiransomware...I had purchased WinPatrolWAR but it seems that, for the moment, the product is completely discontinued.

AppCheck is working as expected but it should be possible to turn the backup feature off (the free version is backing up files to the folder: \Backup(AppCheck\). There is a thread about AppCheck where you might find further information about it:

, but did not protect from the Rabbit. Perhaps the second test was done incorrectly.
All tests are created in a virtual machine without another anti-virus software.
