The new version 8 was meant to be out by Halloween, but I
I used to run v7.4.21 Premium on default without any problems alongside other security softs. I wonder if that will still be the case with v8, given the extra features.

I just installed free version in my pc (Win10 64bit) and after I select the standard protection and restart the pc I opened CryptoPrevent and although it says that policies have been applied when I do the test protection a message informs that protections are not applied. Any idea why?

Is the free version the same like v7? or does v8 run in the background?

v8 didn't install properly over v7, but installed fine after I uninstalled v7. During the uninstall of v7 there was an option to save the license information :thumb:

v8 has an option to enable a persistent tray icon for quick access to settings. I'm applying the default protection at the moment; it's taking a long time which I guess is because it's creating almost 4,000 SRP rules.

@Victek - was that the auto-update, or a manual install over the top?

CS - can you elaborate? Does the caution not extend to Premium version?

I updated v8 from v7 on 3 machines with no issues, but the gui is kinda confusing...do you have to go to the second tab and apply anything or just click on one of the plans under the 1st tab as shown below?

I tried a manual install over the top of v7. At certain point it just got stuck, but fortunately didn't break anything. I uninstalled v7 and then the clean install of v8 completed without a problem. I decided to apply the default protections, which took at least five minutes to complete.

As I don't have the time for a video (not that I could post it here anyway) and will not say anything definitely without visual proof I can't elaborate at this time. Please be aware that although I have the greatest respect (I really do) for the developer I still caution that one be careful.

As for the premium version, there is no trial (that I'm aware of) so I have not tried it yet as I am without a key. However from the CP website:

"Does the Free Edition contain all the protection features?

Yes! ALL installed editions of CryptoPrevent provide the same protection features, including the Free Edition!"

btw- CP will be default block Java based ransomware which is nice as there have been just DROVES of Locky's using java.

What kind of additional care/caution do you recommend?

Can anyone check if the 4000 policies are like definitions for a particular version of ransomware or are generic and protect as well against malware in general?

And what about the 17000 changes in the registry? What are these about?

In general I would like to know if this is like a general hardening of the SO or not.
How do I get notified in case something legit is blocked by CP?

    Windows 10 x 64.
Upgrade from free CryptoPrevent v7 to v8 went smooth for me. But I noticed that when starting the program in order to manually check for updates, it take between 3 to 7 minutes for the "Verifying System Settings" process to terminate and open CP v8.
Early days yet, I'm monitoring this as it seems that the "Verification" progress is also delayed, or causing CP to not respond, by opening other programs simultaneously (browser etc.).
    Anybody having the same issue?

Same problems, I can't recommend CryptoPrevent v8. Is there another free alternative?

I am still using the 7.8 beta. I am only using the passive protections (SRP rules), not interested in the other features. For that specific purpose 7.8 works well.

I dont know about all 17k registry settings but I do believe every SRP rule is stored in the registry twice. So all SRP rules would be approx 8k registry entiries.

I can confirm that I cannot initiate any program while waiting for "Verifying System Settings" to open
CryptoPreventv8. That means at least 3 to 4 minutes idle waiting before I can use the computer.
Not quite sure if it is worth or if it is possible to revert to CP v7.
I guess as soon as I would run a check for updates it would prompt to upgrade to CP v8.

I couldn't even get it to upgrade from v7 to v8 (free version) on my old W7 laptop. I had to terminate the process manually and roll back to a restore point.
