    Me too!

I used to check in with Peter every six months, or so, but haven't spoken in a couple of years.
A bit sad CoU is gone, but I guess it was time
CoU was one of my brilliant ideas...another one was an app on your phone that you press a button and a taxi cab shows up (a friend who writes apps told me it couldn't be done with the taxi regulations, etc.) I guess he never bothered to tell Uber that it couldn't be done! Oh, well, who needs $50B!

It is still a great site but it looks like we need someone in control that will be there when needed because we have not heard from the very person that needs to be here and that is not good as we have seen twice now.

    Who is your mom?

Yes dad has brain tumors and then got radiation and to me that is murder. He went down hill in days very fast. They say nothing about food and the need to be alkaline. If he was alkaline the tumors will die off but no money is made from the paid killers.
Sorry I am just mad about what they did to my dad.

I also won so much software and still have some I never used. Also lots was won at CastleCops that was a great site. I used to help out Bill at the WinPatrol forum there. I would go there each day and more then once a day to see what new updates are out. A Flash update should be coming up soon.
The fun fight was the one at CastleCops on the big give away of CyberPatrol. I still got two keys for that spyware I won. How people can lie and all the proof of the lies was posted and they keep lying that it was not spying.

While I agree that CoU was primarily a Windows security oriented site, I did notice new Linux releases and other open source programs being mentioned in the entries for each day. I found these entries very useful.

While I acknowledge that many applications now include auto updaters, I always checked CoU since the entries provided release notes/change logs which are frequently missing from auto updates (on a side note I always find release notes/change logs beneficial since if you know the improvements/reasons to update you are more likely to install the update than just knowing it contains “miscellaneous bug fixes”).

Personally CoU saved me a lot of time since I could see what programs needed to be updated (for some of my programs I keep auto update turned off) and allowed me to prioritize which applications to update. Like Wing Man I also used CoU to promote new updates to others and make it easier for people to find out which security updates they were missing (since not everyone uses auto updates).

CoU also saved me time from the fact that I usually once a week will quickly check the websites/blogs of all the software I have installed to check if it’s been updated. I have a batch of bookmarks that I open very quickly and within a few seconds I can tell if something needs updating. CoU allowed me to do this even quicker and for all of the above reasons I found it very useful and this is why I think CoU is still relevant.

On a second site note, the daily entries for anti-virus and anti-malware updates could probably be removed for the future since they are updated every day. If people are interested to learn what changes there are or how many new definitions there are they could check a centralized lists of links for these updates (perhaps make a pinned forum thread containing these links). I’m suggesting the above change since it should save a lot of work for those creating the calendar entries.

    Thanks.

Yes, good idea, but there's a problem. That is, it not being part of the Calendar. A continuing event could be added so it self repeated daily, but the sites sometimes get shuffled about and links etc no longer work. Manual checking is still required to counter that, so may as well do the update at the same time.

Another point. The Calendar saves individual users from having to repeatedly visit the sites to see if the current file has yet been updated. It's one of the reasons the Calendar exists.

OK, I understand, that makes sense.

Thanks for confirming that, apologies if my previous post mentioning this point was stating the obvious.

Hello COU members and everyone else just an update, things are in the works to put up a completely new Calendar of Updates from scratch and the new URL will be www.calendarofupdates.org so just have some patience and we will keep you updated as things go. And thanks to Mike and Team of Wilders for letting this thread continue but lets keep it to a minimum and if anyone needs to ask me a question feel free to send me a Private Message!

    Thanks everyone,

    Daniel :)

Obviously..Wilders is being very generous letting all of us
refer to..talk about and give birth to a wonderful forum
in the name of a great woman in my life as well as many others(Donna B.)
most other forums would not allow this
    :)

So I for one thank you LowWatermark, Paul Wilders..and every single admin & mod here at this great joint
    thank you very much!!

    Right, I'll shut up then.

Good luck getting the new site together.

Please make so more then one person has rights to control the site in case something happens to the other because we know now what happens when you lose control and a great site goes down.

Also make it so you can have mods do back ups. They may not all have rights to restore but you would have more then one backup.

    Some advise on this:
    • Mods having access to do backup can allow mods access to user information, this is a bad idea.
    • For backups, it's always preferred to have data backup to an off-site location.
    • You can force the database to be exported on a schedule, a "copy" if you will, and a backup program can copy that backup as well as your current website files (If no changes have been made).
    • There are some free, trusted solutions out there but these vary by Operating System.

Just need to make sure the back up are made and more then has control so same thing will not happen that just happen and then the site is gone.

Anyhow I got the banner layers from CoU that can be edit if they want to keep the same look if we have the right to do so.

H wasn't the techie...H, or should I say, I was more of a planner, organizer, manager, etc.
Peter would be the guy you'd be pinning your hopes on
I haven't spoken with him in a year or two, so I have no idea
    Good luck to all.
