The best procedure is to backup all data on a drive prior to making any partitioning changes. The programs are designed to be data-safe, but sometimes things go wrong.

I don't really think there's anything you can do with DD to get your data back. If a recovery program works, use it. I would avoid running chkdsk on the drive, at least until you've recovered what you can. Sometimes chkdsk can cause more corruption as it attempts to fix problems like this.

    ---

What version and build of DD did you use?

When DD locked up, how long did you wait before you killed it?

Were you doing the procedure from Windows or booted to the DD CD?

What kind of resize were you trying to do? Simple ones that expand into unallocated space or shrink into unused space usually don't take very long. Complicated ones that involve moving other partitions or taking free space from another partition can take a long time and are more risky because a lot of data has to be moved.

Hey man, thanks for ur reply..ok here is the thing,i used DD version 10 build 2,117

i have 2 partitions on my external hd..first is 360 in size with 110 free space and fat 32 system

second one is 130 and 50 free..and is ntfs...i wanted to take those 110 free space from 1 partition and add it to the second one...cause i wanted to convert first one to ntfs..yeah bad idea without backup,

i started the DD and after a few minutes i noticed it frooze..i didnt wait nothing and ended up the process...bad idea maybe? i was doing it from windows...

anways..all seemed fine till i entered the folders...i mean..my data are not lost, but their names are wierd and garbeld..soo all i wanted to do is to set those names right..i searched the forums..and all recommended get back data but dunno it will work..cause DD garbled them..i just hope i can reverse the processo_O thanks for help:oops:
