Copy external hard drive onto another one.

What would be the best way to copy the contents of my external hard drive to another external hard drive for backup purposes? Would this be the a good way to have a back up? I plan to keep using the original. Thanks in advance.

 

Why not... if it's a DATA drive (the OS drive will not be functional if just a FileCopy is done)? If it's a big one, it'll take a while...

And it's light and easy to use. And it works well.

 

SyncBack works very well for such copy operations, and even their free version is often all you'll need.

 

If you use an imaging app instead of a data copying app, the copy process will be faster.

 

Also disable antimalware while copying (especially if you use WD) - it can improve speed significantly.

 

I use teracopy since I like to preserve the time stamps of files and folders.
