I am using FDISR on my laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1. Whenever I make or update a snapshot or archive the copy runs without a problem. Restoring an archive is where I run into issues. I typically have anywhere from 5 to 30 errors all which say:

"Error - SSN::GetTempFileName[1]: Access is denied. Windows error number 5."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest FDISR version and running the archive restore after disabling security software (Avira & DefenseWal) and changing from VSS to RSS but still have the problem. Searching on this forum shows others have had similar issues but I have not seen a resolution.

    Anyone else with this issue?

As an experiment try uninstalling each security program one by one. Disabling doesn't always do what you need.

Can you post a log of the errors?

I uninstalled Avira and DefenseWall but the errors persist. Looking back through the forum here, it may be a Vista related issue. The errors don't seem to cause any problems with the snapshots, as far as I can tell.

I am now getting another error along with the original one saying "unable to set short filename...". I have had this on on occasion in the past but I haven't seen it in a while. Strange how some of these errors come and go!

No, it's not a vista problem. It seems that the file access permissions for those folders are either lost or modified. And the system does not have permission access in those files.

Perform a "chkdsk /f" at your system partition and reboot. That should fix the errors in the security streams of ntfs.
If it does not, you can login at that snapshot and manually replace the ownership of those folders/subfolders.

It is not a FD-ISR problem but rather an ntfs problem.

Thanks for the reply. I ran chkdsk /f on my C drive and then ran FD-ISR to restore an archive. Same errors again. I did try to change the security of those files with errors but all options are grayed out so no changes are possible. Also, I looked at permissions for other files in the same folder that did not have errors and those permissions look the same as the ones with errors. Any other ideas?

    Hi ffreedom01,

and sorry for the late reply. (it was a busy week)
You must select the advanced tab permissions for being able to modify those files. Also you must pay attention to modify those settings as a super admin (or disable UAC).

Hello Pandlouk...I am a bit confused. I see that turning off UAC will allow me to change ownership or permissions. The thing that confuses me is that ownership and permissions do not look different for the files in question than others in the Manifests folder. Maybe I should just delete them and see if they get replaced properly during an archive restore.

You could try deleting them but make a backup first just for being sure in case you need to restore them.
