Convert c: FAT32 to NTFS

    I want to convert my c partition from FAt32 to NTFS.
    I use WinXP

    Can I do this witouht risk with Disk director?

    This is a process that is not reversible once done. It is a function performed in WIN XP. If you need a FAT32 copy of everything, it would be best to keep that on a separate physical drive, in my experience. You can certainly perform the conversion after you have copied everything to a fresh HDD.

    partition magic can do this in real time and it can reverse it also. I have done it many times.

    Standard Windows utility that is called CONVERT serves this purpose

    Just go to the Command Prompt and execute the command:

    C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs

    Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert.

    After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32 converted to NTFS without of data loss.


    Cluster size and reversability aside this works and is reasonably safe

    thanks for the info, so I don't need an acronis tool. I can simply do this with windows tools withour data loss

    Yep no problem - must have done it on a dozen machines without probs


    It will use the default cluster size and it is a one away journey not going back to fat with this
