Clone installation on new computer

    I have a cloned copy of my HD on an external USB hard drive and I'm at the point where I want to install it on a new computer.
    The reason I did it this way was to insure I have a good copy of the drive if my primary computer has a permanent failure.
    What steps are used to get the process completed ?
    Do I need the start up disk or is this an automatic feature when installing the copy?
