Chronicle Co-Founder Launches New Cybersecurity Company Stairwell

The new organization is founded and led by Mike Wiacek, who previously founded Google's Threat Analysis Group and co-founded Alphabet’s enterprise security firm Chronicle. Jan Kang, former chief legal officer at Chronicle, joins Stairwell as COO and general counsel.

Stairwell has shared very few details about its products, but described them as user-centric tools designed to help security teams “understand the pivotal relationships between their external and internal data sources,” thus helping them proactively combat cyberattacks.

“[...] We started Stairwell so security teams have a cohesive understanding of what's good, what's bad, and why, so they can actively defend against the most sophisticated threats,” Wiacek said.

TechCrunch: Chronicle’s ex-CSO is starting a new company he doesn’t want you to know much about

Armed with more than a decade of experience, Wiacek is now steering the ship at Stairwell, his new cybersecurity startup. Stairwell is now out of stealth after almost a year and securing $4.5 million in seed funding, led by venture firm Accel, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Gradient Ventures and Allen & Company.

As for what the company is working on, “I think it’s one of those things we just have to wait and see,” said Wiacek.
