At least if you are using these kind of offline installers (file: xx.x.xxxx.xxx_chrome_installer.exe): = Chrome will be installed into c:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\ These following offline installer has an "update-component" [if i'm not wrong...] (and the installer is bigger in size) (file: ChromeStandaloneSetup64.exe): = Chrome will be installed into the C:\Program FIles (x86)\ directory but soon it will be installed into C:\Program Files\ [but: if Chrome is currently installed into C:\Program FIles (x86), a newer version will be installed into the same directory] more info:
When I used the offline installer, Chrome wouldn't self update anymore and gave me an error so I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it from the regular installer.
My machines, all of them, Chrome was installed using the offline installer. Auto self update works fine as always.

What's in the latest Chrome update? Nagging notifications muted, SameSite cookie policy enforced by Gregg Keizer (Updated Jul 15, 2020)
Gregg Keizer says 84 was the first upgrade "in almost two months", but Google Chrome v83.0.4103.116 was released June 22, 2020, making 84 the first upgrade in less than one month.
I see what you mean. However, Keizer's article uses the terms update and upgrade interchangeably... ... and sometimes refers to either or both as releases. I'm just trying to nitpick, that's all.
