https://browserleaks.com/chrome Interestingly, uBlock Origin is detected by Protected WAR's timing attack: uBlock Origin Lite is detected by Web Accessible Resources Detection: Adguard MV3 is not detected: What is the situation in your browsers?
In MS Edge with uBlock Origin and Bitwarden from the Edge store and Bitdefender TrafficLight from the Chrome store only Bitdefender TrafficLight is detected by Web Accessible Resources Detection.
Interesting, with uBlock Origin taken from the Microsoft Store there is no detection. So I made the change.
I don't get it, how can you see if uBlock Origin is being detected? On my system, only one extension is detected by ''Web Accessible Resources Detection'' and I see uBlock being mentioned in the ''Protected WAR's timing attack'' section with a green checkmark. So does that mean it's detected too?
Yes,based on the measured time, so there is a longer delay. Try disabling the extension and repeat the test.
So, the test site has a finite number of extensions (1000) that it can detect and only if they are installed from Chrome store. Anything outside of these two requirements won't be detected by the "Web Accessible Resources Detection". Anyway, no extensions of mine are detected on Edge because some of them are installed from the MS addons store, and the Chrome store ones are not included in the 1000 extensions list that the site has the ability to detect.
OK, so I guess that this test is capable of detecting uBlock Origin, at least on my machine. I guess that's why a lot of websites nowadays refuse to show or play content. I wonder if there is something that could be done to make uBlock more stealthier? Perhaps I should NOT install it from the Chrome Web Store?
Likely. Gorhill has some problems with UBO in the Chrome web store: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.48.4
That's due to the fact that the site can see that a certain resource is not fetched (same happens when that resource is blocked by the hosts file). Those sites should be reported to the devs. If it's a regional site, report to the corresponding list maintainer. E.g. for Dutch sites, report here.
Will try to install it directly from GitHub, if possible. So you're saying they are not using the same adblock detection methods as browserleaks.com? Here are some examples: https://www.gids.tv/video/554279/jo...al-af-laat-hier-maar-zien-dat-je-zo-goed-bent https://www.ad.nl/show/van-der-gijp...ding-met-rutte-was-echt-belachelijk~ac25e0ef/
Both sites work here. Only gids.tv has a non working video, but it doesn't play with uBO disabled as well.
I can see those videos whenever I disable uBlock, but of course I will also get to see the annoying animated ads, these guys must be insane! So if you can't see them with uBlock turned off, it's probably blocked by some other extension, perhaps your cookie blocker. But anyway, the question is if I can somehow bypass these adblocking detectors.
That's possible. Download the zip file for Chromium and unpack it to a folder in e.g. Downloads. Then choose "Load unpacked". See here. Caveat: No auto update.
@Rasheed187 OK, tried these 2 sites again in a clean test profile with only uBO enabled and both sites were now fully functional with no ads whatsoever. Only thing is; I had to accept their cookies in a dialog...
OK thanks, will try it and I actually hate auto update so this would be a bonus. Can't believe that Chromium still hasn't got the ability to block auto updating of extensions like in Firefox. Yes, I also don't get ads with uBlock enabled, but the question is if could you see the videos? I guess not.
In the clean profile, with only uBO enabled (out of the box config), I could see the videos on both sites.
For edge Detected 2 of 1000 Extensions ✔LanguageTool ✔CLEAN crxMouse Gestures neverthesless i have uBo (and more) installed, locally, so its no official build.
OK I see, weird. Then this does mean that these adblocking detectors are somehow triggered by certain filters.
