The Consumer Electronics Show is coming around again, as 170,000 techies prepare to invade Las Vegas in the first week of January. CES 2020 will have about 4,500 exhibitors across 2.9 million square feet of space.
The number of exhibitors is about the same, while the square footage is slightly up from 2.8 million square feet, based on the latest estimates. But Chupka said the Eureka Park venue for startups will have about 1,200 companies, up from 1,100 last year.

I spoke with Chupka about CES, the trends she sees among the exhibitors, and the subsectors that are trending or waning. Among the changes: Samsung will have a keynote speech this year, but no press event. As always, the show will go on.

What does Intel have up its sleeve for CES 2020? One of the surprises, say a bunch of recent articles, might well be a thermal module solution for laptops. The new design could allow vendors to create fanless notebooks and can further shrink their thickness, said DigiTimes.
Shawn Knight in TechSpot said that "Several partners will feature the new design in products shown off at CES."

The loudest whispers over what Intel may spring at the upcoming CES 2020 involve an advanced cooling solution, and it would be enhancing power dissipation—by 25 to 30 percent in laptops. Reports said the Intel idea leverages both vapor chamber design plus graphite.
DigiTimes had the much-quoted story about Intel, with reporting by Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai.

"At the upcoming CES 2020, Intel is planning to announce a thermal module design that is able to enhance notebooks' heat dissipation by 25-30%." Who were the sources? The authors said the information was based on "sources from the upstream supply chain."

AMD is expected to make several big announcements at CES 2020, one of which could well be the unveiling of its next-generation CPU architecture called Zen 3.

If you like to listen to tunes in the morning, then Kohler has just the over-the-top product for you: a portable smart speaker with built-in Alexa that slots right into your showerhead.

Although this product sounds ridiculous (and it truly is), the Kohler Moxie Showerhead is smartly designed. The showerhead itself is the circular ring, while the Alexa-enabled speaker is the conical component that slots into the middle. The speaker is held in place magnetically and charges with a bundled, cordless dock.
The Bluetooth version offers six to seven hours of playback on a single charge, while the Alexa version works for “up to 5 hours.”

In addition to the Moxie Showerhead, Kohler also announced in a bundle of CES 2020 news a new Veder mirror with built-in Alexa, a new PureWarmth heated toilet seat (with its own app), and an updated version of its Numi “intelligent toilet,” which it unveiled last year. In the hopes of having something we can look back on later this year when asked what the hell even happened at CES, I’m going to list some of my big takeaways. I’ll leave specific products to the Awards list, instead I want to try to do just a little synthesis.

If there’s one major takeaway, it’s this: in the absence of one clear Next Big Thing, there are a lot of ideas getting thrown at the wall. Many of them are intriguing, but overall it seems like we’re waiting for some parts of the consumer electronics ecosystem to mature. That trend expresses itself differently in different types of product categories, but it was pretty consistent across all of them.
