CenturyLink is Refunding 650,000 Customers Who Paid Hidden Fees

This week the Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced that CenturyLink will pay $6.1 million to refund customers who were charged hidden fees on internet and TV services.

“CenturyLink deceived consumers by telling them they would pay one price, and then charging them more,” said Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson. “Companies must clearly disclose all added fees and charges to Washingtonians.”
CenturyLink reportedly failed to disclose to customers that their bills would include hidden fees including a $2.49 broadcast TV fee, a $2.49 sports fee, and an internet recovery fee that ranged in price from $0.99 to $1.99 a month.

CenturyLink will be issuing refunds to affected customers and must now submit compliance reports to the Attorney General’s Office every year for the next three years and retain all sales call recordings for two years for the state to review.
