I suspect I'll be uninstalling CCleaner sooner rather than later. It was once a must have for me, but not any longer.
just grabbed the portable zip, fun!? "\x86\CCleanerDU.dll" "\x64\CCleanerDU.dll" 6-7mb "Piriform Antivirus" lol? ccleaner now creates a "gcapi_...dll" on startup and it disappears as fast as it came. I think too that the time to leave the sinking ship already was there. CCleaner was a nice tool. to mention that it could please business customers, sure, lol. no one of a capable admin would ever use such cleaner and not in this sniffing manner concerning software updates or more. sorry, SOHO and business data are "holy". any about ccleaner (all cleaners) and "business" only could end up in trash talk.
here too. i use r-wc, wdc, kcleaner, privazer, bleachbit and a couple more. more than just a handful of them.
That's fine. I hope each of them is on a separate machine though. Otherwise you're maybe, just maybe, overdoing it... a bit. Me I don't use this type of apps anymore.
i just love cleaners. it's not that i use them to erase or wipe or secure delete files/folders/app traces or unused space. it's just a hobby for me. i use them all with the lowest wiping algorithm available, that's unless normal file deletion is an option.
Only available in Paid version. You already posted about it here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...rust-alternatives.396801/page-23#post-3013350
That's right. I remember the XP versions were3MB or less. And the 98 version 1MB. It worked. It didn't annoy you. Was not bloated. And exciting to look forward to the next version. Not this crap they're doing today.
I see it has Driver updater i ran it and it said i have 16 drivers that need updating. Im thinking of ditching ccleaner and going for wise disk cleaner. Anyone know, or can recommend a driver updater for free? or paid...cheers boz...
DriverHub is free and is excellent. There is a paid version too, but the free version provides all the functionality you need. However, unless you are having problems with any devices, or have some devices which have no drivers installed, often there is little point in updating drivers. While updated drivers sometimes provide better performance or include important bug fixes, on the other hand sometimes new drivers are buggy, and you may be replacing a driver that is working fine, with one that causes problems.
Yes there are, but you have to manually choose whether to install each one or not. Nothing extra is installed unless you click on Accept. Considering that this is a thread about CCleaner, which is now owned by Avast, it's quite funny that one of the extras offered is Avast.
Downloaded DriverHub it found after the scan 9 drivers needed updating so i did, then i tried ccleaners update driver option again, this time instead of 16 it said i have 17 drivers that need updating..seems im going the wrong way
They will have found different driver updates, as every driver updater has different database of drivers. Anyway, since this is a thread about CCleaner, it's probably best if you have any more questions about driver updates, to start a new thread or message me, so this thread doesn't get too far off topic.
I read the above post, and then saw this thread on the CCleaner forums: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/60824-warning-583-portable-includes-secret-dll/ I was skeptical, so I checked it out myself. Sure enough, CCleaner portable now contains the Google Chrome API DLL and unpacks in the background (likely without your knowledge or explicit consent). Many of us have a strict "no Google" policy on our systems, so this is unacceptable. It's very disturbing that CCleaner is doing this in the background without our knowledge and also that they are slipping in Google code in the background in such a sneaky way. It's also disturbing that they have, so far, refused to respond to the simple question posed on their forums: "What does it do?" We've used CCleaner for years, and have been willing to look beyond their serious issues in the past. We especially like how the CCleaner registry cleaner does a good job without being overzealous and breaking things. But with a strict, "no Google" policy, we'll be removing CCleaner unless they remove the Google DLL promptly. It's going to be hard for the CCleaner team to regain our trust, as this is quite a shady thing to do.
