One of the best freebie apps ever. May have to consider switching to "premium" just to skip the hassle of downloading updates (in abundance!)..

Yes, it has been my go to app for a long time, not only for cleaning but also startup, BHO and tasks management. I just wish they would make the UI skinable as the current one is hard on the eyes.

Build v5.09 is really better then previous one on Win 10. It is faster and more polished to suit Win 10. Well done!

It seems that Ccleaner has increased their range of installer offers in the full build.

As well as the Chrome/Toolbar offer, Dropbox and VyperVPN are now also offered.

VyperVPN is apparently not pre-ticked, instead a yes or no box is offered.

Only one offer is presented at install.

No idea at the moment on how the decision is made on what offer to present.

Yeah, it is a tax for an excellent free application. It is fine unless you can decline all unwanted offers.

I noticed the phone-home behavior in the portable version, but only through a firewall log that didn't capture the URL. Does anyone know what that is about, and specifically what URL is being requested? Found a setting to disable it?

    Hello TheWindBringeth:

Shortly after being launched/run, the installed/free edition of Piriform's CCleaner v5.09.5343 sends a 'GET' to Piriform's CDN at http://www.piriform.com:80 (IP=199.27.79.64) with the system's CCleaner file version followed by an indecipherable, long hex string. Directly, Piriform's San Francisco, CA CDN responds by repeating/acknowledging the CCleaner's file version number.

At the expense of not being advised of a possible application update to the system's CCleaner, you might try UNticking: Options > Settings > Automatically check for updates to CCleaner, and see what happens. Please let us know.

    YMMV

I've been using Ccleaner for 5 years and have never gotten any offer, Chrome, Dropbox etc. Possibly because I always update thru the program and I may have opted out of any offers the first time I downloaded and installed it, not sure, can't remember, but never any crap offered here.

@1PW: Thank you for the reply and description. FWIW, when I unzip and run the CCleaner v5.09.5343 portable zip version, the "Automatically check for updates to CCleaner" box is UNCHECKED and so too are the monitoring options. The request I was speaking of is an HTTPS request that happens despite those settings. My machine with better logging is back up...

    1) The HTTPS request I always see upon startup appears related to a pro version trial. It is a simple GET to a www.piriform.com URL, with no query string or extra headers. This setup doesn't allow it to go out though. So I don't know what would happen if it did (what the response would be and/or whether there would be additional requests that do pass info).
    2) If I enable check for updates, I see a separate HTTP GET to www.piriform.com which does have a query string. I suspect one of the active fields is a machine key/ID. This request is also blocked, so I see no subsequent traffic.

    Hello TheWindBringeth:

Out of curiosity mostly, I wonder if a redirect of IP 199.27.79.64 to 0.0.0.0 could be temporarily entered into your system's HOSTS file and effectively hide your CCleaner install from Piriform to mitigate your privacy concerns? Or block in your system's firewall.

Much like @digmor crusher, I have never seen any undesired interaction from any of Piriform's products.

Both a software firewall, and also DNS redirection to an alternate IP Address, were successful when I used them. I prefer to configure most applications so that they never attempt a connection or even a DNS request. So I'm still slightly interested to know if there is a way to prevent that pro trial related HTTPS traffic that I didn't opt-in to and don't wish to take advantage of.

Apart from the previous "might be a machine GUID" in [free version] update checks, and also seeing a default of:
    Code:
    CookiesToSave=*.piriform.com|yahoo.com

I haven't anything else to say WRT CCleaner privacy at the moment.
