Capcom announced on November 4, 2020, that some of the company group’s network systems were experiencing issues in the early hours of November 2, 2020. It was caused by unauthorized access from a third party, which stopped some of the internal network operations.

The company is currently working with the police and other related authorities to investigate third-party unauthorized access while restoring the internal systems. While Capcom apologized to stakeholders that were affected by the internal network outage, it assured that there was no breach at the customer side of the network.

Japanese game developer Capcom has suffered a ransomware attack where threat actors claim to have stolen 1TB of sensitive data from their corporate networks in the US, Japan, and Canada.

At the time, Capcom did not disclose the details of the cyberattack, but in a ransomware sample found by security research панкак3 we see that the Ragnar Locker ransomware gang attacked them.
In the ransom note created during the attack, the Ragnar Locker operators state that they have stolen 1 TB of unencrypted files from the corporate networks in Japan, the USA, and Canada.

Also enclosed in the ransom note is a link to a private data leak page on Ragnar Locker's website containing a 24MB archive containing additional stolen documents, including revenue forecasts, salary spreadsheets, NDAs, immigration forms, corporate communications, and royalty reports.

Pancak3 told BleepingComputer tonight that Ragnar Locker claims to have encrypted 2,000 devices on Capcom's networks and are demanding $11,000,000 in bitcoins for a decryptor.
This ransom also includes a promise to delete any stolen data and a network penetration security report.

Capcom has published a new official press release on November 16, 2020, confirming that the company’s networks were targeted by a customized ransomware attack from Ragnar Locker. This announcement confirmed reports made a few days after Capcom announced that its internal network systems were compromised by third-party unauthorized access on November 4, 2020.

On November 12, 2020, Capcom confirmed that a few personal information of employees and former employees, including their passport information and signatures, as well as financial information and sales reports, were definitely compromised. The company also announced that much more personal information and confidential information may be potentially compromised as well.

Capcom has suffered another serious information breach, as details of its upcoming game release schedule up to the end of 2024 have been posted online.

It follows a cache of documents posted earlier this week which revealed details on more imminently-available games due within the next few months, as well as source code and plans for handling relationships with streamers. Nine items of employee personal data were also included.
As before, this new information comes from a ransomware attack which breached Capcom's servers and obtained an enormous amount of sensitive information. Capcom has acknowledged the attack and is now working with law enforcement agencies.

Capcom previously said it feared up to 350,000 items of personal information could be held by the ransomware attackers, including addresses, phone numbers, birth dates and photos.

The company has said it is now "contacting individuals whose information it has verified to have been compromised to explain the background of this incident and current situation", though an IGN report last night included comments from staff at one former studio - Capcom Vancouver - who believed their details are at risk but who said they had not been contacted so far.

Capcom has released a new update for their data breach investigation and state that up to 390,000 people may now be affected by their November ransomware attack.

In an update to the investigation released today, Capcom states that they have confirmed 16,415 people whose personal information was exposed, with a possible total number of affected people to be 390,000.

"As an update to its ongoing investigation, the company has verified that the personal information of an additional 16,406 people has been compromised, making the cumulative number since this investigation began 16,415 people."
