    Can't delete backdoor trojan with Norton

    I have run ad-aware which detected nothing.
    I have run Norton scan in safe mode and backdoor trojan is detected in c:\windows\mlijgico.dll but cannot be deleted. Followed correct procedures as per symantic website (system restore off, download updates, restart in safemode twice, runscan, etc.) but to no avail.
    Have downloaded Hijack this and scanned and here is the logfile.
    Please advise-
    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

    Hi mccarp,

    Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SPYWATCH] C:\Program Files\BulletProofSoft.com\SpywareRemover\SpyWatch.exe /STARTUP
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] \Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

    O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe

    O16 - DPF: {11111111-1111-1111-1111-111111111157} - ms-its:mhtml:file://c:\nosuch.mht!http://hard-virgins.com/dl/adv59/x.chm::/load.exe

    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/213e6ac64c44795ebd21/netzip/RdxIE601.cab

    O16 - DPF: {B942A249-D1E7-4C11-98AE-FCB76B08747F} (RealArcadeRdxIE Class) - http://games-dl.real.com/gameconsole/Bundler/CAB/RealArcadeRdxIE.cab

    Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\BulletProofSoft.com <= entire folder

    While still in safe mode try and delete the file Norton found.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Pieter,
    Thanks for the quick reply. I followed your instructions but still unable to delete infected file. Is there anything I can look out for in task manager to end process before trying to delete the infected file?

    Pieter,
    I downloaded and ran What's Happening (thank you) and find the trojan running inside explorer.exe. Unfortunately, I am unable to isolate process in task manager and ending process for all of explorer.exe isn't an option. I'm sure that if I can find a way to end process for trojan, I can delete the file.
    Any ideas?

    Pieter,
    Yep, that did the trick. It took several tries but it finally worked. Nasty trojan. Besides Norton, I am running BOclean which is supposed to be better at catching trojans. Are you familiar with it? Thanks so much for your help.

    I never used BoClean but I am sure if you could get Kevin a copy of the file he would gladly add detections if it is malware. (and it sure acts like it)

    Regards,

    Pieter
