This scanner did not work with ubuntu 18.04 until I installed the Rolf Bensch PPA which supplies the latest driver.
Now it only works on my laptop running Xubuntu 18.04. In Kubnutu 18.04 the simple scan application loads but when clicking scan it exits. scanimage -L shows the scanner is recognised..
    ocky@ocky-asus:~$ scanimage -L
device `genesys:libusb:001:003' is a Canon LiDE 120 flatbed scanner
    ocky@ocky-asus:~$
Running from CLI indicates segmentation fault. I reinstalled all the relevant packages which are all identical to those installed in my Xubuntu laptop, but nothing doing. Purging the PPA did not work because the installation files could not be found.
I have had so few problems with Kubuntu in the past that I have forgotten how to troubleshoot and fix :)
So how would I go about fixing a segmentation fault? The problem occurred when I was overhasty, rotating and cropping the scan, somehow it 'got stuck' as a result.

i don't know if this can resolve the segmantation, but for story i 've running this scanner without issue :
    For installation :
    1-Unplugged scanner
    2-Open terminal in root mode
    3- execute this
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install gocr libusb-dev libsane-dev libsane-extras xsane-common xsane
    sudo usermod -a -G scanner
    4-Plug your scanner.
