    Hi

is there a way to disable the standby shutdown option in windows 7?

for xp , i added this key
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters]
    "[B]Attributes[/B]"=dword:00000070
reboot and now i can't click on the standby ,it's disabled
i guess this key should not harm xp , should not it?

but for windows 7 is there a way to do the same tip?

    thanks
    cheers

what options do you currently have if you press the arrow next to the shutdown button?
what power plan do you use?
by default on windows 7 standby isnt active and hybrid sleep is used instead.

Have you tried entering a very large number in the Control Panel/Power Options/Sleep settings? I haven't tried it, but if you can enter something like one million minutes that would be pretty close to never :)

log off will close off all active programs used by that account and log it out.
lock keeps programs active and is used to prevent anyone else using the account until the password is entered. if a password isnt lock still works but you can click on your name and enter without a password.

windows xp and 7 both have lock, log off and disconnect. disconnect is found under the users tab in task manager.
