As far as I know apps & games usually install these because they need those specific versions. I wouldn't recommend removing them in case it breaks apps or games on your system :)

I'll tell you what I do instead of recommending anything. What I started doing was to download and install the latest ones that contain the MFC security update in both x86 and x64 for all of the versions (05,08,10,12).

If an app installs an older build of one of those versions and it shows up in programs and features, then I remove it. I haven't had any problems doing it that way yet.

You could uninstall them all, and when you try to run a program that needs one, it will prompt you to put it back. You might try to rid yourself of the older ones and see what happens. Worst case is that something will refuse to run until you put it back.

    i recommend caution with that.

i removed all of them just to see what would happen.
when i try to run a few games with their launchers i don't get a prompt to get me to install the missing framework.
    the games just don't run.

as always, it is best to have a disk image you can go back to if you get into troubles.

Instead of removing the older ones, rename them and reboot. Just change the extension or add .old after the existing extension.
