    Hi,
I just bought this product and obviously I'm to stupid to use it.
All I want to do is to make the c: partion of a laptop smaller.
    It's an fat partion.

I open diskdirector, making c smaller, click on this flag on the top to execute, the information window says that the partion will be made smaller, I click OK for reboot, during reboot I have some acronis messages during startup, the system boots ... and the partion has the same size as before.

Any idea what I could do?

This is a common problem. When the system partition is involved, Windows needs to reboot to let the operation proceed. Often this doesn't work correctly and no changes get made.

If you haven't already done so, create a bootable cd using the Acronis Media Builder program. Include both the Full and Safe mode versions on the CD. Then boot from the CD and do the partition resize. If the Full mode version doesn't work, then try the Safe mode version.

Also make sure you have the latest build of DD 10 (2,160).

if that is a common problem, i wonder why I do not find something about this in the help page. Perhaps I didn't found it.
    I Have Version 10 2.161.
When I click in the menu on "rescue media builder" (I guess that this is for starting the programm) nothing happens. Really nothing. At least I would expect a message or something.
Not the best start for me with acronis...

Acronis probably doesn't have anything on it in their help pages and knowledge base. There are losts of posts (mostly in the TI forum, but quite a few here also) that deal with this problem.

If the Media Builder program isn't working, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the program or contact Acronis Support and request help. I don't remember seeing many (if any) posts where the Builder program wouldn't start.

If you did a minimal install, maybe it didn't get installed. I ususally do a Complete install, but you could also do a Custom Install and make sure the Builder program is included. Also make sure to install for All Users. Installing for just the current user sometimes doesn't let the program work correctly.
