Apparently something very vital for avid Bouncer users and very welcome indeed.

Thanks @WildByDesign for relaying this newest released development the developer has made a new decision on with it.

Seems useful for convenience, but will result in weaker security. Like, imagine something gets exploited to run with higher privileges. Now suddenly it can do whatever it wants, of course it has to get to that point first, but still

As kakaka mentions, it is just an optional feature which can be toggled on/off.

Installed Bouncer today, using the simple default configuration (shipped along with the product) so far:
    Code:
    [#INSTALLMODE]
    [#LETHAL]
    [LOGGING]
    [#SHA256]
    [#CMDCHECK]
    [WHITELIST]
    C:\Windows\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\*
    \Program Files\*
    \ProgramData\Microsoft\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Excubits\Bouncer\*
    [BLACKLIST]
    [CMDWHITELIST]
    [CMDBLACKLIST]
    [EOF]

I do not understand the reason for getting a lot of LSTCHECK message in the log file, even without having the [PARENTCHECK] et. al. configurations in the ini file at all:
    Code:
    ...
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Program Files (x86)\Excubits\Bouncer\Tools\BouncerTray_x64.exe > C:\Program Files (x86)\Excubits\Bouncer\Tools\BouncerTrayHelper_x64.exe
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Program Files\ProcLoggerSvc\Service\ProcLoggerSvc.exe > C:\Windows\System32\sfc_os.dll
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Program Files\ProcLoggerSvc\Service\ProcLoggerSvc.exe > C:\Windows\System32\sfc.dll
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Program Files\ProcLoggerSvc\Service\ProcLoggerSvc.exe > C:\Windows\System32\sfc_os.dll
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Windows\System32\consent.exe > C:\Windows\System32\sspicli.dll
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Windows\System32\consent.exe > C:\Windows\System32\userenv.dll
    2018/12/02_13:19:32 > LSTCHECK > C:\Windows\System32\consent.exe > C:\Windows\System32\amsi.dll
    ...

Specifying [#PARENTCHECK], [PARENTWHITELIST] containing *>* and an empty [PARENTBLACKLIST] does not make any difference. Trying with the configuration from Bouncer manual produces equal results, now only with the SHA256 checksums due to [SHA256].

I was expecting to have only the blacklisted PARENTCHECK entries logged, not everything... Could someone shed some light on this, please?

    Try
    Code:
    [#INSTALLMODE]
    [#LETHAL]
    [LOGGING]
    [#SHA256]
    [#CMDCHECK]
    [WHITELIST]
    C:\WINDOWS\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\*
    C:\Program Files\*
    [BLACKLIST]
    [CMDWHITELIST]
    [CMDBLACKLIST]
    [EOF]

Make sure when you click Open Configuration File that it's indeed the right config file
Make sure there's an empty line after [EOF]
This should not produce any logs coming from/to the above folders

Ahh... it seems that the parentchecking configuration is nowadays integrated into the standard white- and blacklists. I was using a recent Bouncer version but still used the syntax from the old version. Checking the latest manual solved the issue.

I've been using an alpha build with this new [ADMINBYPASS] feature and it is quite awesome. I haven't experienced any issues with it yet either in my testing. But I'll have to update my alpha internal build to this official beta now.

@4Shizzle Thanks for the heads up on this beta release! :thumb:

A new release of Bouncer is coming soon, and a list of dangerous Commandlet Names has been published recently.

Maybe someone can please tell me what I am doing wrong.
I have the new demo version installed, with the out-of-the-box default config.
But the logs are filling up with stuff that should be whitelisted. I see entries from Program files and from Windows folder.
    Code:
    config:
    [#INSTALLMODE]
    [#LETHAL]
    [LOGGING]
    [#SHA256]
    [#CMDCHECK]
    [WHITELIST]
    C:\Windows\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\*
    \Program Files\*
    \ProgramData\Microsoft\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Excubits\Bouncer\*
    [BLACKLIST]
    [CMDWHITELIST]
    [CMDBLACKLIST]
    [EOF]

    Why have you configured

Any reasons for not setting C: before? I dont understands why you first have C:\... in rules and for Programfiles and Programdata not?! My default is

    Code:
    C:\Windows\*
    C:\Program Files\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\*
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\*

I did not configure it that way. It's the default config, installed automatically.
In any case, I am seeing entries also from the Windows folder, which is written in the traditional way, with C:\

Have you other security software running? What Windows version you have installed Bouncer demo?

I have full version of Türsteher which works with automatic installation. I have tried Bouncer demo to reproduce issue, but here the bouncer demo works with atomatic installation. this is what my config look like after running bouncer-demo installer:

    Code:
    [#INSTALLMODE]
    [#LETHAL]
    [LOGGING]
    [#SHA256]
    [#CMDCHECK]
    [WHITELIST]
    C:\Windows\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\*
    C:\Program Files\*
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\*
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Excubits\Bouncer\*
    [BLACKLIST]
    [CMDWHITELIST]
    [CMDBLACKLIST]
    [EOF]

It works pretty good. No false alerts on my installation so far (~5min) but I have to note that I always run windows in very clean environment, not too much applications installed, only original software and clean and lean.

I woulds suggest you use ini from above for your config. maybe some other tools interfere with installation process?! I remeber some time ago others in the forum had issues when installing if other personal firewall tools were active becuase they blocked installation process. Just a guess, maybe I am wrong.

edit: have to add on my machine (forgot that MS Office sometimes make use of old 8.3 file and path names, weird)

    Code:
    C:\PROGRA~1\*

Thanks. Maybe I will try again.
    I installed it on Windows 10 Pro x64 1809
AV: Avast free at default settings. Avast zapped it the first try, but I ran the uninstaller, turned off protection, and installed again.
Besides Avast, I am running Software Restriction Policy, configured by Andy Ful's Hard_Configurator. I am starting to suspect that it conflicts with Bouncer, although I can't understand how. SRP has no binaries. It is just a bunch of Registry entries.

    Nope, it was not SRP.
I disabled Avast and SRP, and installed again, and I also added C: where needed, but same behavior.
Maybe it conflicts with Macrium Reflect 7 paid version, like MZWriteScanner does. The paid version of Reflect 7 has a couple extra drivers that make extra trouble.

Is it the Image Guardian stuff in v7?

Not using Guardian but I have been using Pumpernickel (FIDES) alongside MR7 with no apparent issues, but Pumpernickel hasn't been updated in a while (as far as I know :)).

@shmu26: I reported to Florian. He told me: If there is no C:\ before \Program Files\ your path variables are not set correct (altered). By default you should have variable in set called HOMEDRIVE, this is used by the installer to obtain home drive and set. So open cmd.exe, type set and check what your variable homedrive is. If not there check why it is removed and add it global. Mybe you canged you set/path variable some time ago (or application did).

btw: the installer is same and not changed in code. so no new routine in there. I hav also checked on my Windows installations here (win 7, 8.1 and 10): they all have HOMEDRIVE set. So I guess, it has somethings to do with you individual configuration and toolset. I guess someone/something changed your set/path variables weird.
