Otherwise download the ISO and install over the top. Unless that is what you are trying to do, in which case it needs more research.

Yup through Windows update from our WSUS server. Have had three machines fail so far. Not good lol. I am trying with an ISO right now on someone's desktop, will keep you posted. Also want to look at this link you sent. Thanks!

Yesterday, we reported on an annoyance where users say they have not been able to delete 8.63 GB of past update data after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2. One of the readers' comments on the post drew our attention, which said that there was also an SFC-related bug that was affecting systems post-2024 feature update.

Thankfully, Microsoft was aware of the problem and has rolled out a fix in the latest release preview build, 26100.2152, released under KB5044384. In the release notes, Microsoft says:

[sfc /scannow command] Fixed: You get errors every time you run the command.

Hence, those fighting the Release Preview Insider channel should have the issue resolved. The fix will also be rolling out to non-Insiders towards the end of this month on the non-security preview update (C-release) under the same KB.

Following those, we now have users who are reporting problems on a specific brand of hardware, mainly Western Digital NVMe SSDs, wherein their drives are blue screen crashing after updating to Windows 11 24H2.

The issue seems to be happening on WD_Black SN770 and WD Blue SN580, both of which are DRAM-less and rely on the system memory for caching via host memory buffer (HMB). Users have been able to pinpoint that the problem is occurring as a result of incorrect host memory buffer size allocation and tweaking around this issue using the Registry Editor seems to fix it.

It explains:

After using the Windows Disk Cleanup application, it may display an incorrect amount of disk space that can be freed up in the 'Windows Update Cleanup' category.

Please note this is a reporting error. When 'Windows Update Cleanup' is selected and Disk Cleanup is run for the first time, some or all files in that category (for example, 15 GB) are cleaned up correctly and the related disk space is freed as expected. However, after this initial run, the tool may inaccurately report an amount of space still available for cleanup (for example, 88 GB) in the 'Windows Update Cleanup' category. This inaccurate amount of disk space is reported even though the space was already freed in the initial run.

The company says it is investigating the root cause of the problem and a fix will be provided once available. You can find the issue here on the official Windows health dashboard site.

According to a new notification published on the official Windows Health Dashboard, Task Manager in Windows 11 version 24H2, after applying KB5044384, incorrectly shows the number of running apps and background processes on the "Processes" tab. In fact, it shows zero running apps and background processes, to be precise. Microsoft says the bug appears specifically when the list of processes is grouped by type, but we managed to recreate it even with the default sorting.

0xC1900101 is a generic rollback code
0x40017 concerns software, could be anything

be sure, before upgrading to 24H2, that BIOS and ALL drivers are update date, drivers from vendor at first place, not MS or from anywhere.

and be sure that your machine is able to run 24H2, so meets the requirements, no hacks!

Fixed (KB5046617).

[Task Manager (known issue)] Fixed: The count for the number of groups is wrong or always zero (0) on the Processes tab. This occurs when you turn on “Group by type.”

Did my Windows 10 preview update this morning.. no issues

Checked for updates on my Win 11 23H3 (Defender etc) and grabbed a drink while they were doing them.

I wondered why Win 11 was taking so long and when I looked properly oops it was because it was downloading and installing 24H2

At this early stage, all seems well with 24H2 but it's only been a couple of hours
