I would suspect that 99% of people don't know what winre.wim is, so it is likely a low priority.

Yes, I'm sure a lot of people don't even realise that they're using such an important file.

Updated W10 22H2 with Dec CU KB5033372 tonight after preemptively updating WiFi drivers. Installed unusually fast (10 min.) with NO FULL RESTART of the PC, although it shows as a successful update. No unwanted Copilot is observed.

is a matter of defender and missing NET framework packages or updates.
get all current net framework packages and be happy.

Same thing. I clicked on the "retry" underneath and it went to "checking for updates" before picking up where it left off. Hopefully, there will be some info on that error, right?

    wtf?
KB5034441 is an extraordinary security update only for WinRE.

@Triple Helix--thanks very much--tried "retry" several times also. There's another "retry" button after it fails, that ultimately didn't work either. Tried manually restarting and still failed. Looks like those of us who got this error have to wait or maybe try again later?

I'll keep an eye out for more general complaints. Edit: I read this update pertains to the Windows Recovery Environment.

Nothing to do also for me.
Since, at the beginning, there was a "Download error" I wonder if the download was corrupted and so I ask you how to delete the (probably) corrupted update so that I can try to download it again.

    PS
There is also an interesting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlNtLcFqfOo that explains how to create a Recovery partition.
I already have a recovery partition on my C: disk (the recovery partition is 563 MB) so I don't understand what is missing from what is written here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...e-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf

I would not have clue 1. I think this is much broader in scale. Someone already posted on the Microsoft Community forums but there's no reply yet. I will watch this and periodically try again but I think it's on Microsoft's end, not ours. At least I hope so--these kinds of "fixes" to the partition have not ended well for me.

You could try going into Safe Mode and delete the SoftwareDistribution Folder in C:\Windows and boot back into normal mode and try again. It's worth a try with no harm as it will make a new one.

    Also I don't have a recovery partition?

Yeah, include me on the list with the (0x80070643) error on my Win10 machine and KB5034441. My other machine is attempting to update now.

My second Win10 machine also has this error. Thanks M$!

This is pretty irresponsible of Microsoft. I suspect there could be millions (or more) with this issue from today.

Good idea but didn't work. There was a lot of "stuff" in that folder--deleted it all but the error still happened. Like Krusty said: Microsoft probably needs to pull it and start over. I wonder if it's because you don't have a Recovery partition that you were able to get it installed?

We have 6 windows 10 laptops in the house. The only 2 this installs on are the two laptops that do not qualify for Windows 11.

The cynic in me does wonder if this if this is relevant.

Same "download error" with a retry option. On subsequent attempts to install (after a reboot) it stays stuck on installing 0% (within Windows Update app, that is) then springs error 0x80070643. SFC all clean before & after.
