    On a neighbours machine for them and checked the temp files here, there were thousands.

    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\tw*.tmp

    That is a known old bug for both Windows 10 and 11. You need go to Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Windows > Management then set the "Provisioning" task to disabled.

    Then delete those empty .tmp folders and they'll never get created again

    That is what I did but it makes you wonder how many users have thousands of these.

    @Spartan & @stapp
    Thanks! In my case it was thousands of tw folders. I deleted them all and disabled the Provisioning task. There're also other folders like AMD, Eset, Microsoft etc. Those shouldn't be deleted, right? As they seem to contain valid files.

    Here's what you do, while you're in that folder, press CTRL + A to select all.
    Now, keep holding the control key and de-select the folders which don't have a .tmp extension, there should be only a few

    then SHIFT + DELETE to delete al the selected .tmp folders

    @stapp I never even looked in that folder had I had not seen a big thread about this in the Ten Forum and Windows 11 forum. I wonder why they're being created and why they don't get deleted and why they're empty and what side affects disabling the provisioning task has but I don't want my drive to be filled with this trash so I disable the task anyway., The lesser Microsoft services and tasks, the better.

    Thx, yes, that's what I usually do when dealing with many files/folders.

    Wow, everybody is saying something different. I don't have any "Provisioning" task in TS but I had over 700 folders in that location and deleted them all. Acc. to HiBit, it added up to a little over 500 MB.

    Machine started up as usual with no ill effects (yet).

    I counted 673 folders all empty, but my question is why bother if they are empty...

    I would hate it if my postman put 673 empty envelopes through my door :)
    Microsoft really need to sort this issue out which has been ongoing for years.

    They probably bloat the MFT for no reason. It may not amount to much but any waste is waste.

    You are perfectly right too but in this time and age of very fast computers and large drives this takes less than a few MB of space. I still prefer to leave them there, it is probably a bug but it hasn't been acknowledged by MS yet. I prefer to wait and see...
