So far after a couple hours of catching up with recent updates, all appears as expected with no much ado. Hope they all go this well and trouble-free.

I did the June updates to 20H2, 64 bit, spinner HD. Version is now 19042.1052. It took about 50 minutes. One restart. No News and junk in the task bar.

After getting KB5003214 on 20H2 I see the same stuff itman reported and we summarised in post 6853 on p.275, namely explorer going out.

There was a flash of News etc on first restart, but I don't seem to have it. Or I don't see it because in my firewall explorer is not ever allowed out. The firewall reports denied traffic to

It happens on every login whether restarting or waking from a long nap.

I just clicked Check for updates, it generated this KB to start getting downloaded. I am going to install it right now.

I was not offered the printer patch update via WU as of today. FWIW, Susan Bradley at Ask Woody says she doesn't think it's an urgent patch for home users. https://www.askwoody.com/2021/out-of-band-for-print-nightmare-is-out/

Regarding the latest feature update, I updated from 20H2 to 21H1 this weekend by clicking the link under Optional Updates. The entire process took about 30 seconds, including the restart. No problems observed.

Microsoft says customers may experience printing and scanning issues on devices using smart card (PIV) authentication after installing July 2021 Windows 10 security updates on a domain controller (DC).

"After installing updates released July 13, 2021 on domain controllers (DCs) in your environment, printers, scanners, and multifunction devices that are not compliant with section 3.2.1 of RFC 4556 spec might fail to print when using smart card (PIV) authentication," Microsoft explained.
According to Microsoft, all affected smart card authenticating devices should work as expected when using username and password authentication.

If the known issue still appears even though the devices are up-to-date, affected customers should contact the device manufacturer and ask for setting changes or updates to make the printer or scanner compliant with CVE-2021-33764 hardenings deployed via July Windows 10 security updates.

Microsoft is currently working on temporary mitigation that provided with a future update to re-enable printing and scanning on impacted devices.

"This will allow time for device manufacturers to release compliant firmware and drivers for their devices," Microsoft added.

New Windows 10 KB5005394 emergency update fixes printing issues

Microsoft has released a cumulative out-of-band update to fix a known printing issue preventing some printers and scanners from working correctly.

"Addresses an issue with devices that do not comply with section 3.2.1 of the RFC 4556 specification," Microsoft explains in the KB5005394 support document.
"Noncompliant printers, scanners, and multifunction devices might not work when you use smart card authentication (PIV). This issue occurs after you install the July 13, 2021 update on domain controllers (DC) in your environment."

Microsoft has also released KB5005392 to address the printing issues on Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 devices.
When it confirmed this known printing issue on Friday, Microsoft also added that all affected smart card authenticating devices should work as expected when using username and password authentication.

Microsoft has released the optional KB5004296 Preview cumulative update for Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 20H2, and Windows 10 21H1. This update contains fixes for gaming issues experienced by Windows 10 users since March.

As this is an optional update, you will be prompted to click on the download and install button before Windows 10 will install the update, as shown below.
Windows 10 users can also manually download and install the KB5004296 preview update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Since March, Windows 10 users have complained about performance issues, stuttering, and low frame rates when playing games.
In April, Microsoft released a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to Windows 10 users to resolve the gaming issues, but the problems persisted for many users.

Today, as part of the KB5004296 update, Microsoft has now fixed an issue that prevented power plans and game mode from working, caused lower FPS, and reduced performance for gamers.

"Addresses an issue that prevents power plans and Game Mode from working as expected. This results in lower frame rates and reduced performance while gaming," the company noted in the changelog.

Microsoft has released temporary mitigation info for a known issue that might cause print and scan failures on multiple Windows Server versions after installing July 2021 security updates on domain controllers.

As the company revealed last week, the known issue impacts printers, scanners, and multifunction devices using smart card (PIV) auth and non-compliant with CVE-2021-33764 hardening changes.

"On July 13, 2021, Microsoft released hardening changes for CVE-2021-33764. This might cause this issue when you install updates released July 13, 2021 or later on a domain controller (DC)," Microsoft explains.

Temporary mitigation for non-compliant environments
If no updates are available from device manufacturers, Microsoft provides temporary mitigation for Windows Server DCs while working to get the printing or scanning devices into compliance.

"You must have your non-compliant devices updated and compliant or replaced by February 8, 2022, when the temporary mitigation will not be usable in security updates," Microsoft adds.

Most if not all of the Configure Defender settings mentioned are probably in OSArmor.
