Bork Tuesday, Any Problems Yet?

    Tried to upgrade that Dell Latitude D620 laptop again (disabled as much as I could in BIOS, built new ISO on a Mac). Failed again...

    To see whether 1809 can actually run on this machine I replaced the SATA hard drive by a spare one to perform a clean install. However, the Windows installer does not seem to start from either a USB flash drive, DVD+RW disc, or DVD+R disc.

    Guess this machine won't get 1809...

    The obvious question is did you select the correct BIOS keyboard key; e.g. F12, etc., to select the correct device to boot from? If so, I would suspect that whatever you downloaded and/or used to create the bootable 1809 media has a problem. See if that 1809 media is bootable from another PC.

    No problem here starting Excel 2010.

    The article notes its Japanese users having the issue. Also not the first time since Japanese uses had issues with 1809. Appears Microsoft doesn't like Japanese?

    Yes, I hit the correct key (F12 indeed). I do see the blue Windows logo, but nothing happens after that.

    I should indeed have tried on another PC...

    Did you try to do an in-place upgrade to 1809 from 1803 as I described previously in this thread? That is what I did and it worked "like a charm."

    Yes, in-place upgrade was the very first thing I tried.

    No, I have only been trying updates until last weekend.

    This weekend I discovered I cannot do a clean install since both USB and DVD install images do not boot on this machine...

    How long do you wait for the dvd to run?

    Sometimes it can take 5 minutes or more before it moves from the blue Windows logo.

    Did not time it, but definitely longer than 5 minutes.

    No problem x3 Win10 x64 1809 machines installing KB4480979, KB4480056, KB4480116 and KB890830.

    I installed updates for Windows 7, Office 2010, .NET and IE11 and didn't notice any problems so far.

    Same updates for v.1809 as Krusty and also: no problems, just slow d/l. Phew. :cautious:

    1809 and the same 4 updates as above. No issues.

    One of the quickest downloads and installs I've had. Just under 7 minutes from pressing the 'check for updates' to pressing the restart button.

    Did you try each on another PC to see if they are bootable as I previously suggested?

    The updates installed fine for me too, but I didn't expect anything other than that.

    Yes, yesterday. It got stuck after the blue Windows logo as well...

    Maybe I need to try with more different USB flash drives?

    I usually upgrade asap, but I had problems with 1809 (on Pro) so ...

    Still on Win 10 x64 v1803 17134.472, one Pro, set to 'Semi-Annual Channel' not 'Targeted', another Home (unmetered).

    Not 'Checking for updates'. Nothing yet.

    Edit: On both, Cumulative Update KB4480966 just updated to Win 10 x64 v1803 17134.523, so still no auto-update to v1809 for this 8th Gen Intel Home machine o_O:isay: ...
    Although on Pro laptop, Security Update for MS Office KB2553332 failed to install 0x8024001e.

    All the Win 10 updates installed fast and seamlessly.

    My best guess at this point is the 1809 .iso file you downloaded is bad. This would also explain the 1803 in-place upgrade failure to 1809.

    I downloaded my .iso using the MediaCreator's tool for 1809. I used that .iso for my 1809 in-place upgrade from 1803 w/o issue after first mounting the .iso file in 1803. I also created a bootable DVD from the .iso using Win's built-in DVD burning software. This booted fine abet an extremely long time as mentioned previously.
