I've been wading through reddit posts on KB4088875 (W7 monthly rollup). The update is now showing up as unchecked, though it is still checked on my W7 systems. I do not know why some systems show it one way and others not. Unchecked is an indication that MS is holding off auto installing the update, but they have not issued any announcements. The security-only update appears to not be experiencing the same issues (except VMWare issues) and it is still available in the MS catalog. It could come down to the known issues that were stated up front, so these unknown ones may be compounding the situation. I'm holding off installing until MS announces their findings.

I just ran WUS and 8875 is now gone and replaced with a preview KB4075211.

Good to know, Wolfrun. I was going to do it today but read some bad stuff about losing connection so decided to wait.

Edit: I just did the update, all went well. Thanks.

This is one update that you need to click Check for updates. Is not offered automatically.

I had that problem on one PC. I just downloaded it from the catalog and installed manually.

Thanks. I'll check again but maybe it's a good thing to wait anyway.

On old third machine, KB4089848 took an MS Catalog download and a clean boot to install (without clean boot: 'couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes').

No problems on on newer machines. WUs seem to fail, but update history shows restart required and all is fine.

I found my machines didn't have the QualityCompat registry key and as soon as I added it Windows Update found KB4089848. I thought Microsoft said we don't need that registry key now?

"Due to recent work with our antivirus (AV) partners, AV software has now reached a sustained level of broad compatibility with Windows updates. After analyzing the available data, we’re lifting the AV compatibility check for the March 2018 Windows security updates for supported Windows 10 devices through Windows Update. We’ll continue to require that AV software be compatible. Devices with known AV driver compatibility problems will be blocked from updates. We recommend that customers check installed AV software compatibility with their AV provider."

I know, but as I said, Windows didn't find KB4089848 until I added that key. As soon as I added it Windows found the update. My AV is Windows Defender so perhaps Microsoft consider that a known AV driver compatibility?
