Itman, I have been keeping track of this Service stacks. As far as I can tell, they are not included in the monthly cumulative updates, and they can get installed automatically by the system at any time. The two I gotten since I got my W10 were separate updates, one ( KB4087256) was done at the same time as the computer installed the monthly update and when the computer got started, the previous one (KB4054022), was done hours after the PC had been started and nothing else installed that day. This updates can be installed without the computer giving any tell tale sign that an update is going on. The only reason I was able to tell KB4054022 got installed in my computer (30th of November, 2017) is because I am always looking around the Events log, there you'll see signs that an update took place. This Service stack updates are not listed in the updates list under Settings. To see them, you have to look here, in this Window:

Yes and no on the service stack updates. My Control Panel listing of updates only go back to 12/1. I believe that is because either I cleaned then out or due to the Win 10 update registering problems that existed prior to ver. 1709. In any case, the last auto Win Update I received for servicing stack is KB4054022 dated 12/1/2017. Since that time, I have not received any that were auto downloaded.

Another "tidbit" about the servicing stack updates if they can't be uninstalled.

I agree with you. It's been quite some time since an update caused issues on any of my computers.

In my case, I got KB4087256 at the same time I got February's monthly update. I believe KB4087256 was installed first, and then the monthly update. Perhaps, thats what would have happened in your computer if you had not downloaded and installed the package prior to February's update. We cant know. I known of that package being around for about 2 months, but I had decided to let be and see what would eventually happened with it. I know some computers got the update done automatically a couple of months ago and others (like mine) didn't. It took a while before I got it, but eventually got it. FWIW, never had issues updating W10, with or without Stack updates done or in waiting..

KB4090913 on Win 10 Pro x64 picked up by WU but apparently failed to download / install (not known problem 0x80070643) but Troubleshooter picked up pending restart.

And indeed restart updated me to build 251.

Microsoft forces Win10 1709 upgrades on PCs set to restrict telemetry
Howls of pain from Win10 1607 and 1703 users who were forced to upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update today. No advanced warning. This is the third time some Win10 customers have been pushed onto Win10 1709.

After manually updating the service stack, one of my PC's (that did not automatically update) did get the 2nd February cumulative update, but another still does not...

Microsoft again forced upgrades on Win10 machines specifically set to block updates

For the third time in the past four months, Microsoft 'accidentally' upgraded Win10 1703 machines to version 1709 in spite of explicit, correctly applied, deferral settings. Gawrsh.

The reg key exists on my Win 10 1709 Home build is currently set to "0" which is only supposedly allowed on Enterprise vers.. I believe privacy tweakers such as OOSU10 must be setting this key also.

I updated Windows 7 and Office 2010 with all security updates and didn't encounter any problems also.

This one is interesting. After Win 10 1709 KB4088776 update, noticed that software rendering for GPU graphics is now enabled in IE11. I knew previously, I had that disabled. Perhaps MS doesn't trust NVidia's Spectre driver mitigations?

"UPDATE: Win7/Win2008 R2 Monthly Rollup KB 4088875 and Security-only KB 4088878 are causing problems on Server 2008 R2 because the updates blow away virtual Network Interface Cards (VMWare hit bad) and on Win7 because it overwrites static IP addresses. Discussion on Reddit and an apprently related post on KB 3125574.

ANOTHER UPDATE: It looks like the Word 2016 security patch KB 4011730 causes Word 2016 to crash when you double-click on a file with a DOCX filename extension. Uninstalling the patch fixes the problem." https://www.askwoody.com/2018/massi...ntivirus-restrictions-but-there-are-problems/
