    oops! don´t spank to hard... :D ;)

Tony, I can only agree with you. I also use Nod32 and BOClean + ewido as my main defence behind the firewalls. I only wish that the future ewido v.4 will have a better written/design code, so that the guard doesn´t consume so much resources...

    Regards, C.

Well, I didn't really intend to "spank" anyone or anything, but I did feel that an opinion on an application should be based on just a little more than what its homepage looks like...

I really like Ewido, and haven't found it to be that bad on resources (of course it depends on how much resources you have). You don't need to run scans to use it, but if you do then it has excellent memory scanning and can get inside some of the toughest stuff.

Since no tests have been done it's impossible to say which one is more effective, but my own experience has been that Ewido has given me less problems, and the last time I let BOClean remove a trojan my system still had some pretty major problems (had to re-image). BOClean still has a place on my gf's machine, though, and I use Ewido on my main machine.

BTW, I wouldn't rely on BOClean or Ewido for installed rootkits.

This infection also occured with BOClean running, I think it was just too much stuff running all at once for it to keep up with. Ewido caught the dropper and some of the other stuff, but not everything. Even KAV missed a bunch (I was grabbing them while booted from another partition).

The moral of this story is just that a layered defense really is the best way to go.

    Two bugs with BoClean,

1- No trial( no compromise for many)
    2- No ondeamnd scanner

I never used it and really want to try it.

May be it is something purely legal, but I can,t understand that if u provide a trial version why u can,t continue same practice.

Boclean has the best support of any product I've ever bought including non-computer!

And all you do is drag any file into the open program and it will scan it!

Everyone, I don't understand the problem. Simply use BoClean full time/real time, and the free version of Ewido whenever you want to run a full system scan. The best of BOTH worlds; I just don't get it. o_O

BOClean is NOT and was NOT designed to be a file scanner !

It's main purpose is a Very effective and really light RealTime memory scanner to protect us from REAL live threats. Not maybes doing nothing sitting in some file or folder etc somewhere doing NO harm. What's important is you have something which will react super fast as soon as anything nasty tries to do it's evil deeds, and kill it. That's exactly what BOClean does.

    Thanks i've recovered now !

aigle, since you repeated yourself, I'll repeat my post again:

I can't comment on Ewido, as it's not "windows me" compatible. I've been a happy boclean user for about 2 years. Boclean has caught several nasties that got by some previous antivirus products I used to run. However, I've been running kav 5.0 personal for the last year, and kav has caught everything. I still run, and will continue to use boclean as I believe in the layered approach.

One of those is HAXDOOR, (avpe64.sys and its brotherly DLL) and Haxdoor is QUITE the nasty. Noone detects every variant as there are many builds. It would be one of the top threats if I was to choose some. It's Russian, private builds exist, and it's technically up to date.

    Hello

If I remember right the original haxdoor came out in 2003 but I don't think that one had rootkit features.

here is Mc afee says about this 2006 version and a key note from the page:

It has also been observed to be distributed with exploits like WMF.

Now Gavin ? people keep saying if you run as a limited user, you can not get infected with this type crap.

Would a statement like this mean you can get via unpatched OS?

    Thank you

Just wanted to say that I downloaded and ran one of the most popular keyloggers on the market and neither Ewido or BoClean caught it. PestPatrol (much improved the last few months) caught it within the first 10 seconds of "Quick Scan." It's just hard to compare and even harder to make decisions on many of these kinds of things when many of the products fail miserably with basic bait in simple testing.

You know, that Pest Patrol is like a negative security layer in the fact that every single thing it detects is usually a false positive. Ewido has probably the best (IMO) anti-malware scanner around, and is used by many hijackthis helpers as the first scanner to be run.

Yes what KL was it ?

PestPatrol is well known for many constant FP's over the years. I've used it and wouldn't rely on it alone !

I think "one" of the reasons people suggest Eiwdo is used in HJT logs etc, is because you can use and try the full version for 14 days for Free !
