    Hi,

I will try to give you in this thread a step-by-step guideline with screenshots for the installation of BOClean 4.20

Of course I know that Kevin and Nancy gave you all the instructions.
But I thought that it might help some of you when you have also some screenshots.

This thread is mostly aimed to those of you who don't have the extended download possibility from Digital-River and have the previous version of BOClean installed.

The main purpose of this thread is to try to help you with the new procedure to get the actual installation file for version 4.20

These guidelines are divided into two parts:
    1. How to get the actual installation file Boc420.exe
    2. The installation of BOClean 4.20

    Important :
The actual installation of BOClean needs to be done when you are logged on as Admin.

    PS:
The screenshots come from a Windows 98 SE system.

    First part of the guidelines:
How to get the actual installation file Boc420.exe

First you have to send an email to upgrade@nsclean.com

You will get two emails from PSC in reply :
    1. BOClean 4.20 encoded Step One
    2. BOClean 4.20 encoded Step Two

    1. BOClean 4.20 encoded Step One

This email gives a link to download a file decode.exe

(In case you use a very tight set-up of your firewall with respect to your email-program, you might have a problem to download it directly from the email. But in that case you will know how to get it ;)).

    Download decode.exe to your desktop.

    2. BOClean 4.20 encoded Step Two

This email has an attachment BOC420.001

Put this file also on your desktop.

This screenshot shows you those two files on your desktop :

Now you have to uninstall your existing version of BOClean.

    You will see this :

OK, you have now uninstalled your existing version of BOClean.

Now you double click on the file decode.exe on your desktop :

You will now see the following screen :

Now you have to go to the file Boc420.001 on your desktop.

Left click on it, hold the left mouse key down and drag it to that box as shown in the following screenshot :

    Note :
Should you drag the file onto the opened decoder and nothing happens, logout and log back in as Administrator.

When that icon of Boc420.001 is in that box, you can release the left mouse key.

The BOClean 4.20 Setup window will now show.

And you will see that suddenly the file Boc420.001 is renamed to Boc420.exe and that its icon is now changed (see screenshot).

The file Boc420.exe is the actual installation file.

Here ends the first part of the guidelines.
The following second part will tell you about the installation.

    Second part of the guidelines:
    The installation of BOClean 4.20

Important : BOClean must be installed when you're logged in as Admin.
    1. If you are already logged on as Admin, then just go on.
    2. If you are not logged on as Admin, then click Cancel, log out and log now back in as Admin, and double click on Boc420.exe to start the actual installation.

You will see the "BOClean 4.20 Setup" window again.

Now in the Setup window of BOClean 4.20 click on INSTALL.

BOClean version 4.20 will now be installed.

    You will see :

Now you will see the Done window.
    Version 4.20 is now installed.

As I told you already, you will see the file Boc420.exe on your desktop.
Make sure that you backup that file !!!
It is the actual installation file of version 4.20 !!!

OK, you have now made a backup of Boc420.exe

Now you can remove those two files from your desktop :
    1. Boc420.exe
    2. decode.exe

    Now you reboot.

Then you open the BOClean menu to get the latest definitions.
You need to do that because the definitions which you have now with your new version 4.20 are already too old.
    See screenshot :

Well, you have now your new version 4.20 installed :)

Now it is time to check the configuration of your BOClean.
The following site will tell you more about that :

Well done and thank you Fran.
Although I have mine installed before reading this your guide will be welcome
by anyone unsure about the decode.exe bit. I was worried about this myself.

    Important

In case you had already installed BOClean but did not install it as Admin, then:

    1.
    Uninstall BOClean.
    2.
Reboot and log in as Admin.
    3.
Use that file Boc420.exe to install it again (now as Admin).
Remember: you had already made a backup of that file Boc420.exe

My apologies that the thread was a little while off-line.
It gave me the opportunity to make a few changes ;)

You didn't mention... After uninstalling the old version, does one need to reboot before installing the new version?

Thanks for letting me know this FanJ. I wanted to thank you for this and review your line by line instructions which are very good, so when I get ready to ask for mine I will know exactly what I am looking at when setting it up. o_O It was gone. o_O :doubt: 'Where is it? Did I dream it?"

Very nice to see it back my friend. ;)

No need to reboot BOClean after uninstalling. Just go right ahead and install the new one. And no need to reboot after installing it. Now there's a refreshing change!

I think you should have added that the install adds about 1MB of temp files, which my tidy mind thinks should be removed.

    Thanks for this post. :)

I only just upgraded yesterday. A quick question and something that I noticed. It does seem to take a big longer for this new version of BOClean to start up. It has delayed my boot up time a bit. Is this because of the cleanup of winsock activity? Could it be also due to the fact that NOD32 keeps an eye on winsock?

Have any of you disabled that functionality in BOClean? And have you noticed anything similiar on your pc's?

    Thanks. :D
