    and i have KB2976897 installed

KB2982791 and KB2970228 are not present

    why?

and now if i try to check for available update , i got this warning windows update
    "install new windows update software
to check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows updated"
    what should i do ?

Yes mantra, I had the Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 auto install on my Win7 sp1 64bit machine.

I did uninstall KB2982791 and then Microsoft pulled it from updates.

I didn't uninstall KB2976897 but it is totally up to you if you want to uninstall it.

Also try completely shutting down your machine, waiting a couple of minutes and then trying.

This to say the least is driving me nuts. Seemed like all was well the last few days, manual update checks working o.k.. This morning after checking via the manual updater the error returned. And yes I had jumped through all the hoops including cleaning the dns cache etc.. So looking through the recent updates KB29775719 was installed. I had uninstalled it previously but windows insisted on reinstalling it. So after this morning with the pesky error I uninstalled it. Windows tried to install it again. This time I set to "hidden update" so it won't bother me anymore. After a reboot windows alerted me of another update this time KB2876284, I installed it rebooted tried the manual updater and now it is working again. For how long who knows. Seemed like before the only dns address that would work for me was google. Tried to switch to opendns and norton and the same problem would repeat itself. Now I am using my ISP dns address both in router and TCP/Ipv4 connections. So far so good but still knocking on wood. Just to add, I am not suggesting that anyone go this route as everyone's setup is different, and as the old saying goes "nothing is set in stone. Good luck. Meanwhile I'm going to head out for a 10k hike to relieve some stress.

    hi
i haven't KB29775719 & KB2876284 installed, windows update doesn't list them , what i did notice is that Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 changed the windows update service from manual to automatic (dalay)
the only recent update is KB2993651

will microsoft release update to fix it?

KB2993651 installed a couple of days ago. Since then KB2970228 installed and just this morning KB2876284 installed, all rated as important. I just tried another manual update just now and it's working so far with message "Windows is up to date". The previous option for Windows Update I had was "Download updates but let me choose to install them".... am switching to .."Check for updates but let me choose to whether to download and install them". This is for windows 7 64bit system. So for now am going to leave well enough alone.

Odd, I just checked my Win 7 x64 machine and it was set to: 'Install Updates Automatically' which confused me because I have had it set to 'Check for Updates but let me choose ... ' since I have had the computer. M$ couldn't change that remotely, surely?

Oh, for a Macbook ... :isay:

Just checked the manual windows updater and it's working. That's two days in a row now. So am going to wrap this up on my end as things seem to back to normal. Going to do a backup now and hope for the best. :doubt:

a couple of weeks ago I installed the updates.

I lost access to my optical drive.
I booted a Linux Live CD and Linux was seeing the optical drive.

I decided to restore an image but during that time my C drive also went missing for awhile.
I finally was able to restore an image from before the updates.

I can't be 100% sure if all these problems were due to Windows Updates.
just wondering if anyone else experience something similar...

FWIW I just noticed that I have KB2976897 installed. Although I didn't encounter any problems I decided to just uninstall it.
