BitDefender Antivirus FREE for everyone on Friday 13

BitDefender 2011 beta campaign is over. Seems we will use giveaway key with 2011 soon. This might be one reason for small installer, which downloads components on demand instead of a complete installer.

 

May have run into a small issue. Got the key when downloaded, it was accepted however when I went back to the settings page the license is valid & OEM but under that it states "will expire in two days"? Why would this be the case is the license is valid I wonder.

 

Sorry I was not trying to make anyone feel bad just sharing my opinion.

 

Does anyone have any insight into the 2011 version? Will it be lighter, fewer bugs, etc? Any new features in 2011?

 

That's a very good question
I've just installed 2010 version (this promo) , key was accepted and everything is fine in that area.
But system is sluggish and this AV is pretty heavy.
So I had to remove it.
I'll try it again when 2011 comes out.

 

Could the new version be coming in two days (upgrade to 2011) hence why this version would expire in two days?

 

great....attract crowd by declaring an open offer..........then coolly restrict it to a specific location.....btw what is this practice called ?

 

Is this big security app going to be available only to people located in the U.K.?

 

I'm not feeling guilty at all.
I also used the proxy and have no regrets.
The website stated that the free application was available FOR EVERYONE, then (they) changed the rules.

There are only a certain number of hoops most of us are willing to jump through just to get a one year license for a good but not top-tier antivirus.
Let's hope the promised upgrade will take place as advertised on Monday and that we aren't repeatedly bombed by spam from the vendor or hosting party for the next twelve months- or longer.

Overall, I feel that this particular giveaway was very poorly managed and implemented.
As I write this, I'm still waiting for my download link after registering as a new member over an hour ago.

If I come across as unappreciative, I probably am close.

whether the serial work on the BD2011.I need to install now, or can be installed when the BD2011 went out?Does anyone know the answers?

 

It's open to the States. BitDefender HQ - in all their wisdom - thought the promo was UK only. So they made it UK only.

It isn't, so it's now open for all. Try again!

BD 2011 is out on Monday. Install the build we give you, with your code and it should auto-update to 2011 next week.

Use the build we provided, where possible, only because we can't guarantee anything if you use the trial with the promo codes. The promo codes are tied to the build - which BitDefender confirmed will update to the 2011, next week.

Nice one , there are enough companies outthere who would be lame and make it 2010-only license just before 2011 comes out.

By the way I have got a question. Is it possible to install it in another language, or is it English only?

 

Very true, I downloaded the build y'all offer and I am now waiting for my key to get emailed to me. I am going to save up for if I ever need it

 

Got my new key ! ... but I will have to wait until 2011 version arrive ... 2010 is too heavy ...

Did you run a full system scan? Once Bitdefender scans your files it won't scan them again unless they have changed. This helped to make Bitdefender run lighter. But it still ran a little heavier then I liked. The web scanner really slowed my browsing speed. I had to disable it.

I hope version 2011 is lighter.

Check again. After registration, you will get in less than 10 minutes. I got mine in less than 2 minutes.

 

The 2011 version is avaiable in next Monday, 16th
