Only point of Auto Scan is that it frequntly checks even files that you generally don't come across during daily use. It's just that and nothing else. You won't be any less secure really because if there is some malware lurking on your disk that you don't know, it will get detected when you'll try to run that file.

Personally i think the Auto Scan is a waste of resources and shouldn't even be automatic. It should be on demand scan so you run it only if you suspect anything. Otherwise it's a pointless disk grinding feature that i hate. And if i disable it then the interface is constantly showing that it's disabled and thats annoying me...

What exactly is disk grinding? Is it damaging to the hard drive?

I don't believe it does, because if a malicious file were to run, then BDF would scan it upon launch. I have to say that I never allow any AV to do an "auto-scan", as I run them myself when I want to. BDF is a bit different because there is no manual scan option, short of right click scanning C drive and waiting years for it to finish (my only gripe with BDF). If you use the usual on-demand scanners that most of us use, then you will be fine.

He was just talking about unnecessary disc usage, nothing more. ;)

On-Demand is a thing of a past, basically from the days when AV's were on-demand only.

Yes, it kills your SSD drive. ;) I don't like autoscan at all.

Strange. I've been using bitdefender free since Dec on 3 pc's and the auto scan feature runs for about 1min or less each day. Usually 3 or 4 times daily. I never notice it has run and I don't see any disk grinding. The thing that is a bit quirky is every now and then I see a Cleanup section and it says "Finished scanning previous threats". I'm not sure what threat it found or when.

If it is just reads, it shouldn't hurt the SSD. It's writes that matter.

This has been my experience aswell. It does its Quick Sweeps pretty fast, mostly when I'm not using my computer.
This is a bug. If you ever came across a threat that BDF neutralized, it keeps telling you that it "finished cleaning previous threats" everytime you open the GUI. I was told this will be fixed in the next update.

Whenever this damn near vaporware "next update" is, yeah supposedly it'll be there. I still watch this thread, but I've long lost any real desire to fool with the program. When Auto Scan gets toned down or better yet removed and restore is put in, I may give it another shot. But at this point I'm honestly happy with Avast Free and MBAM Pro, neither of which I've had to wait months for them to get their stuff together.

I'm unable to even install it on Win8 64bit. :doubt: What's the problem? Old bitdefender registry keys? :doubt:

Quite typical for BitDefender. Top of the line detection and top of the line bugs...

Bitdefender Internet Security has been installed before. After running BD2013_Uninstall_Tool.exe I restarted the computer. I still get the same installation error message, what a pity! :doubt: :(
